Human-caused wildfires are still possible. Please make sure you are burning safely: gov.bc.ca/saferburning

Full details from BC Wildfire Service:
https://blog.gov.bc.ca/bcwildfire/campfires-permitted-across-coastal-fire-centre-due-to-decreased-fire-risk

Current and forecast conditions have shifted since the Coastal Fire Centre initially implemented the Category 1 campfire prohibition earlier this May, resulting in cooler temperatures, improved humidity values and an overall reduction in wildfire hazard throughout the region. Because of this, Category 1 campfires will be once again permitted under the Coastal Fire Centreโ€™s jurisdiction as of Friday, May 15, 2026, at 12 p.m. (noon).

Although the fire risk has decreased for the region, human-caused wildfires are still possible and entirely preventable. Please take the time to learn how to enjoy a campfire safely: gov.bc.ca/saferburning

Category 2 and 3 open burning and select activities and equipment remain prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre. For full details, please refer to the following information bulletin: https://blog.gov.bc.ca/bcwildfire/campfires-permitted-across-coastal-fire-centre-due-to-decreased-fire-risk/

A small act of care that goes a long way. โค๏ธโฌ†๏ธ

Emergencies can be more challenging for older adults, but a little preparation can make a big difference.

Build a kit with the older adult in your life so theyโ€™re ready for the unexpected. This will help ensure they have what they need to stay safe and comfortable.

Community doesnโ€™t just mean where you live.

A community can take many forms, including neighbours, faith groups or people with shared hobbies.

Building strong community connections before an emergency makes it easier to support one another when it matters most.

Start by reaching out, saying hi, and suggesting a conversation about shared preparedness โœ”๏ธ

Talk about local risks. Discuss the hazards in your area and identify people who may need extra support in an emergency โœ”๏ธ

Assign responsibilities for an emergency response, such as first aid, cleanup or checking on vulnerable individuals โœ”๏ธ
