On Fire Fighters' National Memorial Day, we honour fire fighters across Canada who gave their lives in the line of duty. Today, the names of our fallen brothers and sisters are added to the wall of the Canadian Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial in Ottawa. We honour their legacy, and the courage, commitment, and sacrifice that shaped the communities they served and protected. We remember them, and we stand with the families, crews, and communities who carry their loss.

Kids in B.C. are back in school! 🚸

If you'll be driving, remember to watch for children walking and cycling, follow the 30 km/h school zone speed limit & playground speed limit, and watch for school buses. 🚌

🚨 When their lights are flashing, vehicles coming from both directions need to stop.

⚠️ Failing to stop can result in a $368 fine, three penalty points on your license, and most importantly, putting a child’s life at risk.

🔥 Campfire Prohibition Lifted

The BC Wildfire Service has lifted the campfire prohibition within the Coastal Fire Centre, effective Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Campfires are once again permitted where allowed, but residents are reminded to use caution and follow all local bylaws and fire safety requirements. Never leave a campfire unattended and ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Burning in North Saanich is only allowed with a permit, purchased from the North Saanich Fire Department: northsaanich.ca/contact-emergency-services

An important safety update for anyone visiting the beaches along Dallas Road.

New signage has been installed by the City of Victoria that includes beach access IDs to help emergency crews respond more quickly to emergencies along the shoreline.

Film Screening: “The Test” Wildfire Documentary

Join us for a screening of the film “The Test” on Thursday August 20th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the View Royal Fire Department. Popcorn, snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The film screening will also include valuable information on wildfire preparedness provided by the View Royal FireSmart Program.

Event Overview:
“The Test” is a documentary based on a true story and explores the 2021 Tremont Creek wildfire and its impact on the community of Logan Lake, BC.

The Town of Logan Lake spent 18 years preparing for a wildfire they hoped would never come. And then, in the summer of 2021, it did. The Test is the story of the Town of Logan Lake's efforts to make their community more fire resilient, eventually becoming the first FireSmart community in Canada. But when the 2021 Tremont Creek Wildfire roared toward them, all eyes were on the little community as nobody knew if all of that work would pay off and if they would pass the test.

Two members of North Saanich Fire Department, Local 5509, are on their way to the Big Bar Complex Fire to support structural protection operations.

They’ll be working alongside crews from across BC, Canada, and around the world. We’re proud to have our members representing North Saanich and supporting the wildfire response.

Our hearts are with everyone affected. ❤️ Thank you to the firefighters, volunteers, emergency responders and other emergency personnel for their time, dedication, and support.

🚨 A provincial state of emergency has been declared, the first since 2023, as the Bald Range wildfire burns out of control near Okanagan Lake. More than 20,000 people are under evacuation order, including all of Summerland (~12,000 residents) and ~8,000 residents in and around Peachland. The fire has grown to over 95 km² since it was first reported Friday.

⚠️ If you're under an evacuation order, please leave now, and avoid all travel to the area. Emergency crews need clear roads to do their work safely.
