Today, we pause to recognize the loss of two Ontario police officers who died in the line of duty this week: Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto and Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali.

We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, colleagues, and the communities they served. Their dedication to public safety and service to others will not be forgotten.

At Victim Services of Nipissing District, we recognize that tragedies such as these have a profound impact on families, first responders, colleagues, and entire communities. We also acknowledge the effect these losses have on the broader policing community and all those who work each day to support and protect others.

We stand in solidarity with everyone grieving during this difficult time and honour the service, commitment, and sacrifice of these officers.

As summer begins and more people head onto the water, boating safety matters. A properly fitted lifejacket significantly increases survival during water-related emergencies, yet many drowning incidents involve people who were not wearing one.

Before heading out:
• Wear a lifejacket
• Check weather conditions
• Avoid alcohol while boating
• Tell someone your plans
• Keep safety equipment onboard

Safe choices help everyone enjoy the season.

Child & Youth Advocacy Centres (CYACs) bring multiple services together in one child-friendly space to better support children, youth, and families. This coordinated approach helps reduce stress, improve communication between services, and create a more supportive and trauma-informed experience throughout the process.

Support looks different for every child and youth, but it often includes:

• Explaining the court process in child-friendly language
• Helping them understand their role
• Preparing them for testifying or attending court
• Providing emotional support throughout the process

Small steps that can make a big difference in helping children and families feel more prepared, supported, and informed.

For many children and youth, involvement in the justice system can feel confusing, stressful, and even frightening.

Programs like the Child Victim Witness Program help reduce fear and uncertainty by providing information, guidance, and emotional support throughout the court process, helping young people and their caregivers feel more prepared and supported every step of the way.
