These details can help first responders, school staff, or bus drivers offer quick help if they need it.

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert and obey the rules of the road as students return to school with the launch of its annual “Slow It Down for School” campaign.

School zones and surrounding neighbourhoods become increasingly busy this time of year. NBPS is urging motorists to take extra care, slow down and avoid dangerous or distracted driving.

“Every driver in our community has a responsibility to prioritize the safety of our children and youth as they head back to school,” said A/Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “There is no excuse for dangerous driving around school zones or for failing to stop for a school bus. A moment of impatience or inattention can put a child’s life at risk.”

Stop for School Buses

🟡Motorists approaching a stopped school bus must stop when its overhead red signal lights are flashing or its stop arm is activated.
🟡On a road without a median, vehicles travelling in both directions must stop.
🟡Drivers approaching from behind the bus must stop at least 20 metres away.
🟡Drivers must remain stopped until the bus begins moving, the red lights stop flashing and the stop arm is no longer activated.
🟡Amber means slow down.

“When you see the amber lights, slow down and prepare to stop,” said A/Deputy Chief Warner. “Do not try to beat the bus lights. The bus is coming to a stop to pick up or drop off students, and those students may be about to cross the road.”

Failing to stop for a school bus can result in a minimum fine of $490 and six demerit points for a first offence. Subsequent offences can result in fines of up to $4,000, six demerit points and possible imprisonment of up to six months.

Report Dangerous Driving

NBPS cannot be everywhere at all times, which is why community reporting is an important part of keeping our roads safe. Members of the public are encouraged to report dangerous driving and school bus-related traffic violations when they witness them. Traffic complaints help officers identify problem areas, recognize trends, focus enforcement efforts and investigate dangerous driving behaviour. This year, NBPS is making it easier to report eligible non-emergency traffic concerns through online reporting, providing a convenient way to report bus violations.

Media Release: NBPS Investigating Suspected Vehicle Arson

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) is investigating a suspected arson involving a vehicle fire in the 100 block of Carruthers Street.

On September 3, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., NBPS members responded to assist with an investigation involving a suspected arson. The investigation remains in its early stages, and further details are not available at this time.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the incident, noticed anything suspicious around the time of the incident, or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between approximately 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on September 3, to contact the NBPS at 705-472-1234.

Media Release: Stolen Vehicle Recovered and Two Arrested Following Investigation

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested two people following an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle from Lakeshore Drive on August 17, 2026. The vehicle was recovered later that morning and returned to the owner.

The accused, 38-year-old, female, of North Bay, has been charged with:

• Theft of Motor Vehicle
• Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The co-accused, 32-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:

• Theft of Motor Vehicle
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

On August 17 at about 8:00 a.m., NBPS responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft from the 700 block of Lakeshore Drive. The vehicle was recovered by members of the NBPS Patrol Section, in the Strathcona Dr area at about 10:30 a.m. that morning and was later returned to the owner.

Through the course of the investigation, NBPS identified two people believed to be involved in the alleged theft. Police determined the vehicle had been taken at approximately 5:00 a.m. that morning.

On August 30 at about 8:30 p.m., the accused was located and arrested without incident in the 300 block of Lakeshore Drive.

On September 1 at about 8:30 a.m., the co-accused was located in the area of Booth Road and Marshall Avenue East and arrested without incident.

“Responding officers quickly recovered the stolen property and returned it to its rightful owner,” said A/Deputy Jeff Warner. “They continued to follow the evidence and identify those responsible. This type of behaviour is unacceptable, and we will continue to work to ensure those responsible for criminal behaviour are brought to justice.”

The accused and co-accused were arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Media Release: Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Trafficking Investigation, Two Arrested

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested two people after a traffic stop led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, weapons and cash believed to be linked to drug trafficking.

The accused, 43-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:

🔹Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
🔹Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
🔹Two Counts of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
🔹Four Counts of Possession of Fi***rm or Am******on Contrary to Prohibition Order
🔹Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Fi***rm

The co-accused, 33-year-old, female, of North Bay, has been charged with:

🔹Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
🔹Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 31, NBPS Patrol Section conducted a traffic stop, for a vehicle failing to display two plates, in the area of Laurier Avenue and Fisher Street.

During the traffic stop, officers observed an open container in the vehicle, prompting further search. Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:

🔹0.2g Fentanyl
🔹Kusari-like Weapon
🔹BB Gun Pistol
🔹$11,315 Canadian Currency

Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested in connection with the investigation.

“Our patrol officers did an excellent job with this investigation,” said A/Deputy Warner. “What started as a traffic stop quickly led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, weapons and cash linked to drug trafficking. Every time we can disrupt the drug supply, we are making a critical impact to community safety.”

The accused and co-accused were arrested and released on undertakings with a future court date.

Advisory: Filming Project to Use Smoke Machines to Simulate House Fire

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) and the City of North Bay are advising residents of a film production taking place on August 31, 2026 at 10:00 am to 11:30 pm at 212 Victoria St W.

During filming, members of the public may notice smoke simulating a house fire. These is a simulated fire, and does not pose a threat to public safety.

NBPS is aware of the filming, and appropriate safety measures will be in place throughout the production.

If you observe an emergency or suspicious activity unrelated to the scheduled filming, call 9-1-1 immediately.
