Teaching children that it’s okay to say “no” to physical touch (including hugs, handshakes, or tickling) helps them understand that their body belongs to them.

It reinforces the important lesson that consent is always a choice, never an obligation.

By honoring a child’s boundaries, we empower them to recognize their own feelings, build confidence, and develop healthy relationships based on respect and personal autonomy.

R**e culture thrives when sexual violence is minimized, excused, or ignored, and when survivors are questioned instead of supported.

It shows up in victim-blaming questions like “What were they wearing?” or “Why didn’t they just leave?”
In jokes that make light of assault.
In media that romanticizes control, coercion, or persistence instead of consent.
In schools that avoid teaching consent and body safety.
In systems that protect perpetrators while survivors are silenced or retraumatized.
R**e culture is not about individual intent ➡ it’s about a society that allows harm to go unchallenged.

At Anchor & Thread, we work to dismantle r**e culture through prevention education, survivor-centred advocacy, and community accountability.
Sexual violence is never acceptable, consent is non-negotiable, and survivors deserve to be believed.

"If my child was in danger, I'd know."

Many parents believe this, but grooming often happens gradually, and children don't always recognize warning signs or know how to tell an adult.

The best time to talk about online safety is before your child needs the information.

Teach them:
✔️ Not everyone online is who they say they are
✔️ They can come to you without fear of getting in trouble
✔️ Secrets about online interactions should never be kept from trusted adults

And that’s a wrap on our 9th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. 👠

Yesterday, men in our community stepped up, and walked in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence. Their presence sends a powerful message: ending violence against women isn’t just a women’s issue, it requires men to be allies, advocates, and part of the solution.

The statistics don’t lie. The majority of gender-based violence is perpetrated by men, which makes it all the more important for good men to speak up, challenge harmful attitudes, and stand beside survivors.

This event also raised vital funds for our organization, helping us continue providing one on one counselling, prevention programming, advocacy, and support services in our community. Every dollar raised helps us keep this important work going.

To every walker, donor, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter: thank you for making a difference and helping create a safer community for everyone.

We’ll see you next year. 💜
