There are few Canadians whose story has touched a nation quite like Terry Fox. 🇨🇦 And now, his story will become part of everyday Canadian life in a remarkable way: Terry Fox will be featured on Canada’s next $5 banknote. 💵
In 1977, at just 18 years old, Terry was diagnosed with bone cancer and lost his right leg. Rather than letting that stop him, he set out on an extraordinary mission to raise money for cancer research. 💙
On April 12, 1980, Terry dipped his artificial leg into the Atlantic Ocean and began his Marathon of Hope. 🏃♂️🌊 Running an average of a marathon a day on a prosthetic leg, he travelled more than 5,000 kilometres across Canada before cancer forced him to stop just outside Thunder Bay.
Although Terry’s Marathon of Hope was cut short, his dream continued. ❤️ His determination inspired millions, and the Terry Fox Run has gone on to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research around the world. 🌎
Now, Terry’s portrait will appear on Canada’s next $5 note, ensuring that his remarkable story continues to be seen and remembered by generations to come. 🇨🇦
