Extension cords can be convenient for temporary power needs, but they are not designed to be a permanent solution.

Using extension cords to power outdoor lighting, pumps, decorations, appliances, or equipment for extended periods can lead to damage from weather, foot traffic, and UV exposure. Over time, worn or damaged cords can increase the risk of electrical shock and fire.
