The JIBC Study Abroad Experiences page showcases the journeys of JIBC students as they apply or expand upon the skills they’ve learned in their program, and gain a global perspective in their chosen area of study in public safety. Funded by the Irving K Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society and administered by the Victoria Foundation, this award was established to provide outstanding recent

graduates of the Career Fire Fighter Pre-employment Certificate with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the cultural aspects of serving communities through fire protection services. The scholarships will be used to defray the costs of travelling abroad for a three week service-learning opportunity as well as the costs associated with pre-departure training and post-trip debriefing and consolidation. Fire Rescue International Training Association is a proud partner of this the One World Scholarship program, providing instruction and leadership to the Scholars both academically and while abroad.

Our Story

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) offers its students expanded opportunities to learn and apply their education with unique study abroad opportunities in public safety.

Students access these opportunities through scholarships and awards like the One World International Scholarship funded by the Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society administered by the Victoria Foundation, and other internal and external awards including the Jim and Vicki Chu Legacy Award.

These study/work abroad experiences are made possible through the valued partnerships and arrangements with organizations, agencies and post-secondary institutions around the world.

To date, JIBC law enforcement students have studied at the Waterford Institute of Technology and the University of Portsmouth. JIBC firefighting students have studied at the UK Fire College and also supported deployments to Central America through the Fire Rescue International Training Association.
