🚨🐾 Not all heroes wear capes... some have four paws. 🐾🚨

When Wesley suddenly stopped during a routine walk with Animal Care Attendant Darra last week, neither of them knew they were about to help save a life.

Trusting Wesley's instincts, Darra took a closer look and discovered an unconscious man lying partially hidden beside the trail. Darra immediately called 911 and stayed with the gentleman until first responders arrived. Throughout the entire situation, Wesley remained calm, gentle, and by her side despite the commotion of emergency vehicles, firefighters, and paramedics.

We're incredibly proud of both Darra and Wesley. Darra's quick actions and Wesley's alertness helped ensure someone in need received assistance.

Wesley is more than just a hero—he's a sweet, sensitive, and intelligent young dog who forms strong bonds with his people. While he can be cautious in new situations, this story perfectly showcases his gentle nature, trust, and remarkable character.

📸 The photo in this post was taken at the exact location where Wesley and Darra found the unconscious man.

Wesley is currently looking for his forever home! ❤️ Could you imagine adopting a dog with a heart this big?

Check out his bio and submit an application today. We think this special boy deserves a family of his very own.

Update: Adoption Pending!

We wanted to share an update on our sisters, Peach and Maple! 🍑🍁

As you can see from the updated photos, Peach (bottom photo) has really started to come out of her shell and is settling in nicely. Maple (top photo) made herself right at home from day one and has been enjoying all the comforts of shelter life.

We are so happy to see these girls feeling safe, comfortable, and loved while they wait for their forever home.

Be sure to read their bio below and fill out an application today if you're interested in welcoming these beautiful sisters into your family. They can't wait to meet you! ❤️

Cats: No-thank you
Dogs: No- thank you
Kids:No- thank you

These sweet sisters came into our care through a transfer from another shelter, and their bond is truly special. Peach leans on Maple for confidence, while Maple helps lead the way with people. You can tell them apart by their markings—Maple has more orange on her face, while Peach has a beautifully dipped orange chin.

These gentle girls would thrive in a quieter home with someone who understands their sensitive nature and is willing to give them the patience and time they need to blossom.

They are spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated—ready to start their new lives with you.

If you’re interested in giving these angels a loving home, please fill out an application today.

Their adoption fee is $337 + tax.

🌟 Freedom Friday Update! 🌟

Do y'all remember the Brindle Potato? 🥔🐾

Well, on this Freedom Friday, we wanted to share a lovely update on our favourite brindle spud, Duke! We are thrilled to report that Duke recently celebrated his 11th birthday with his amazing pawrents and furry siblings. 🎂🎉

We are so incredibly grateful to Duke's wonderful family for opening their hearts and home to this sweet old gentleman. Seeing him loved, spoiled, and celebrated is exactly why we do what we do.

Happy 11th Birthday, Duke! May your days continue to be filled with belly rubs, treats, naps, and all the love a brindle potato could ever dream of. ❤️

Happy Friday, y'all! 🐾

Meet Kimchi 🌸

Cats: Well- Matched
Dogs: Unknown
kids: No thank-you

This beautifully fermented angel is 6 years old and has had a stressful start to life. Kimchi was surrendered to our shelter due to his owner moving and being unable to afford his medical care. Despite everything he’s been through, this sweet boy remains one of the softest, gentlest souls you could ever meet.

Sadly, Kimchi’s teeth were in very poor condition, and he had to undergo extensive dental work. He now only has his canine teeth left, along with a few tiny incisors. He is still recovering from his dental procedure and has been eating wet food only with us, three times a day. At this time, we are unsure if he will want to eat kibble again, so his future adopter must be comfortable continuing a wet-food-only diet if that’s what works best for him.

Kimchi is looking for a calm, cozy “Netflix and chill” type of home. We don’t think a busy household would suit this sensitive guy. He is currently sharing a room at the shelter with a shy female cat, and they seem to coexist very well, so he may do okay with another calm, well-matched cat with a similar energy level. We do not have any history regarding dogs. No young children for this gentleman, please.

Kimchi has had bloodwork completed, a urine test, and has tested negative on his SNAP test. He has also been microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, and neutered — this boy is fully ready to start his next chapter.

If you’re looking for a quiet companion with a tender heart and lots of love to give, Kimchi may just be your perfect match. 💕

Kimchi’s adoption fee is $225 + tax.

If you are interested in adopting Kimchi, the first step is to fill out an application and submit it for review.

Update: Harley has left the building on a foster to Adopt!!!

We are reposting our sweet girl as we still haven’t found the perfect match for her. ❤️

Everyone, meet Harley 🐾

Dogs: No- thank you
Kids: No -thank you
Cats: No- thank you

This shy little French Bulldog has come into our care due to a sudden move her loving family had to make. Harley is 4 years old, spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated.

Harley does have allergies and is on a special hypoallergenic diet that must be purchased through a veterinary clinic. She can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly. She’s also a little bashful when it comes to putting on her harness.

We believe an adult-only home would be the best fit for Harley. She has no experience living with dogs or cats, so we are looking for a home where she can be the only pet.

If you are interested in Harley, the next step is to fill out an application using the link below. ❤️

Harley’s adoption fee is $300 plus tax.

🦝✨ On this episode of Wildlife Wednesday ✨🦝

Today’s Wildlife Wednesday features one very determined young raccoon — and a wonderful example of compassionate humans helping wildlife the right way! 💚

This curious little masked bandit somehow found himself trapped inside a large, deep garbage bin at Key West Ford. Thankfully, the caring staff noticed he was in trouble and reached out for help right away.

Our officer attended and chose a low-stress, hands-off approach to help this youngster safely escape. Instead of capturing or handling him, a simple “raccoon ladder” was provided so he could climb out on his own terms.

Why does this matter?
Wild animals experience a lot of stress when handled by people. Whenever it’s safe to do so, giving wildlife the opportunity to escape naturally is often the best option. Less handling = less stress = a better outcome for the animal. 🙌

A huge shoutout to the compassionate team at Key West Ford for caring enough to make the call and help keep wildlife safe. 🖤

📞 If you ever have concerns about injured, trapped, or orphaned wildlife, please contact your local animal services agency or the experts at Critter Care Wildlife Society for guidance and support.

Update: Adopted!!

Meet Daryl & Dean!

These handsome gentlemen were sadly left at the shelter’s front door in a laundry basket, but they are now safe, healthy, and ready to find a loving home together. Estimated to be around 1.5 years old, this adorable duo has already been seen by the vet and received a clean bill of health.

Dean is the black pig sporting what can only be described as a glorious “business in the front, party in the back” mullet look, while Daryl is the ruggedly handsome long-haired grey gentleman. Together, they are the ultimate pig duo with charm, personality, and plenty of good looks to go around.

Like most pigs, these boys can be a little shy at first, but with patience, love, and fear-free handling, they have so much potential to grow in confidence. They are very food motivated (snacks are definitely the way to their hearts). Dean is the braver of the two and helps reassure Daryl that everything is okay — it’s very sweet to watch their bond together.

If you’re interested in giving these boys the loving home they deserve, please fill out an adoption application today and send along a photo of your housing setup.

Adoption fee for the pair: $50 + tax.

Meet Egg Sheeran & Feather Fawcett 🐦✨

These beautiful budgies are ready to find a loving forever home together! Egg Sheeran is confirmed to be male, and we believe Feather Fawcett is also male, although we won’t know for certain until their cere develops a little more.

These tiny celebrities came into our care alongside Bird Reynolds and Cluck Norris — all four were sadly found living together in one cage with a “FREE” sign attached, left out on the boulevard. Thankfully, they are now safe and receiving the care they deserve.

We have decided to pair them up into duos, because while four birds may be a party, it can also be a lot to ask of one adopter all at once! Egg Sheeran and Feather Fawcett make a lovely little pair and are enjoying each other’s company.

All of the budgies have been examined by a veterinarian and received a clean bill of health. Feather Fawcett was underweight upon arrival, but has recently gained a healthy amount and is doing very well.

If you are interested in adopting this adorable pair, the next step is to fill out an application and send along a photo of your housing setup for them. Please see the application below.

Their adoption fee is $50 + tax for the pair. 💛
