Social Media Participant Use Policy
newwestcity.ca/social-media-participant-use-policy

The City of New Westminster uses social media as one of several communications tools in order to keep residents up-to-date and informed about what’s happening at the City and in our community. We encourage residents who have social media accounts to follow the City on its official channels, and to help share ne

ws and information with other members of our community. By engaging with the City of New Westminster's social media channels, you agree to the following terms and conditions. This participant policy is subject to amendment or modification at any time. We welcome respectful comments and questions on the City of New Westminster’s social media accounts and we expect residents to use the same civil and on-topic approach that they would if approaching staff in person. As such, we reserve the right to hide or delete the following types of comments:

• Comments that contain violent, inflammatory, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist remarks, links, or images
• Comments that threaten or defame any person or organization, or are bullying in nature
• Comments that are unreasonably rude or disruptive
• Comments that are unrelated to the topic of the post
• Comments that contain inaccurate information about City or Council services, decisions, operations, or staff/Council members
• Comments that are solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any third-party organizations, unless already advertised/endorsed by the City
• Comments promoting or opposing any person campaigning for election to a political office
• Comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity, or contain material that violates copyrights or trademarks of others
• Repetitive or duplicate comments by a single user, or repetitive comments by others regarding a matter that has already been addressed by the City

Participants engaging on the City’s social media accounts are individually responsible for the content of their comments. If repeated posts of the above nature, or a single incident of severe misconduct, are made by any individual account, we reserve the right to block that person without warning. Further, the City reserves the right to restrict comments at any time on any post for any of the following reasons:
• To protect City staff, Council members, and vulnerable groups from insult or harassment
• When there is a high likelihood of unproductive or polarizing conversation, or the discussion is no longer respectful or productive
• When comments cannot reasonably be moderated

Residents who wish to formally submit feedback to decision and policy makers should use either the City’s contact form, or the Be Heard website if the comments are regarding a project that is actively seeking public input. Residents can also contact City Council or speak at Council as a delegation.

⚽🇨🇦 A strong start for Team Canada and a great day of community spirit in New Westminster!

Fans gathered at Queen's Park Arena today to watch Canada open its tournament campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The afternoon featured live performances by Balkan Shmalkan and Savoir Faire, special game-day treats from BeaverTails and the arena concession, and plenty of cheering from students, families, and football fans of all ages.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Team Canada and help kick off our Fired Up for Football watch party series. 🔥

Where did you watch today's match? At the watch party, at home, at work, or somewhere else?

Let's meet another group of Community Grants recipients!

Native Art Renaissance Foundation's vision is to have an Indigenous art gallery and learning centre. The journey has resulted in a community space for storytelling and truth sharing.

Westminster House Society is behind a number of local initiatives, including the annual Clean Up New West event. This event promotes environmental stewardship, builds connection, and fosters pride throughout New Westminster.

New Westminster Minor Ball Hockey Association aims to expand organized youth ball hockey in New Westminster so more children can participate, build confidence, stay active, and experience teamwork in a positive environment.

For decades, the Queensborough Special Programs Committee has been a cornerstone of Queensborough, bringing the community together through dedicated volunteerism, cherised local traditions, and inclusive celebrations that reflect the neighbourhood's rich history and spirit.

🚧 Construction begins Monday, June 15 on the Front Street Parkade Rehabilitation Project.

This project will renew aging infrastructure and improve the parkade by repairing concrete and stair railings and upgrading pedestrian walkways.

The parkade will remain open throughout construction so you can continue to park there to access local businesses, the park, or downtown events. Sections of parking stalls will be temporarily unavailable as work progresses through the parkade.

For more than 75 years the Massey Theatre has been a place of culture, creativity, and connection.

The City of New Westminster's investment of more than $34.1M in Massey Theatre reflects its ongoing commitment to the cultural sector while recognizing the importance of this civic space.

This investment means:

✅ Upgrades that will extend the life of the complex
✅ Access to more modernized spaces
✅ An improvement in accessibility for community members

Hear from Jessica Schneider, Executive Director, Massey Theatre, as she reflects on the venue's storied past and shares hopes for space's future.

"Why is New Westminster investing in active transportation?"

It's a question we hear a lot.

The answer is about more than bike lanes. It's about creating safer, more comfortable streets, giving people more transportation options, and helping connect residents to the places they need to go every day.

From improved crossings and lighting to traffic calming, street trees, and more comfortable routes, the Active Transportation Network Plan is helping make it easier for people to move around the city in a variety of ways.

In this video, we're taking a closer look at why New Westminster is building an active transportation network and what it means for the future of our city.
