Enjoy an afternoon of poetry readings, art “Show & Tell”, chats, and more! Come listen, share, and connect. Presented by Janet Kvammen, Poet Laureate of New Westminster. In partnership with RCLAS Royal City Literary Arts Society

Feature Poet Lozan Yamolky & Artist Tristan Wright

BIOS:

Lozan Yamolky is the author of 3 poetry books: I'm No Hero, Counting Waves, published with Silver Bow Publishing & Dreamers Needed, through McNally Robinson. Among her many achievements, Lozan was one of the recipients of the Distinguished Poet Award from Writer International Network Canada in 2018, and her poem, Peace Treaty, won the 1st Prize at the 2019 International Rabindranath Tagore Poetry Contest. The DaCapo Chamber Choir, from Waterloo, Ontario, commissioned her to write about her refugee experience. Her poem, I am Here, is in the production of Following the Moonroad.
In May 2020, Following the Moon-road won the Honourable mention for Outstanding Choral composition from Choral Canada. Lozan Yamolky is of Kurdish descent, was born and raised in Baghdad, and immigrated to Canada in 1995. Due to a traumatic brain injury she sustained in a motor vehicle accident, Lozan withdrew from the poetry scenes and the community due to invisible but debilitating symptoms. She is thankful to be returning to poetry and is completing her fourth collection, Let Silence Speak.

Tristan Wright is an illustrator from Qayqayt First Nation, located in New Westminster. She creates work that pushes the boundaries of what urban Indigenous art can be. Her work is an amalgamation of her inspirations, from video games and online fandom. Currently, she is selling her work online and developing a portfolio that demonstrates her research and world building skills.
Through her work, Tristan hopes she conveys moments that stand out from stories, communicating through visuals what speaks to others. Having just graduated, she plans to use her portfolio to enter the world of Concept art and Design in Vancouver.
