September 11, 2001 it felt like the world was under attack. That day hundreds of FDNY members rushed to the horrific scene at the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan. While thousands of workers were rushing down the stairs these brave men and women (along with NYPD and Port Authority members) started the climb to the fire floor while helping many of the severely wounded to safety. Unfortunately, when it was all over, 343 firefighters 23 Police and 37 Port Authority Workers and over 2500 civilians perished in NY, Washington and Pennsylvania. Countless have since passed due to illness incurred from the rescue and recovery efforts that followed. We pause today to remember each and every one that was lost that day. #343
