Located in the southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada, School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) serves West Kootenay communities including Crawford Bay, Creston, Kaslo, Meadow Creek, Nelson, Salmo, Slocan, South Slocan, Winlaw, Wynndel, Yahk and the surrounding rural areas, within a large geographic area consisting of two time zones. Our visionary, creative team focuses on providing the best opportunities we can possibly create on behalf of over 5400 students and their families.

The SD8 Board of Education sets the direction for the district through its strategic plan and policies. School trustees don’t manage schools or direct staff. That’s the work of senior staff and school principals, including the superintendent, secretary-treasurer and departmental directors.

The Board’s role is governance: setting direction, establishing policy and keeping the focus on what matters for students and families across SD8.
