Great vibes at the 30th Annual Cedar Farmers Market yesterday! I connected with lots of friends, colleagues and teachers from Nanaimo District Teachers' Association, who do amazing work in our Nanaimo community.

BC Ferries are essential marine highways for the people of Nanaimo and Vancouver Island.

I sailed seven summers on the Salish Sea as a proud member of BC Ferry & Marine Workers' Union Local #2. I'm proud to be the initiator of petition e-7474, sponsored by MP Gord Johns for Courtenay-Alberni, which calls on the Canadian Government to provide increased federal funding for BC Ferries.

It's time for a fair deal from our federal government for the people of Nanaimo who rely on BC Ferries.

Japanese students at Vancouver Island University put on an amazing dance performance as a part of VIU's annual Asian Heritage month celebrations! Another awesome perk of working at Vancouver Island University is that we get to take part in meaningful events, such as VIU's annual Moose Hide Campaign flag raising ceremony to work towards ending gender-based and domestic violence in Canada. It was great to be among our campus leaders for a meaningful ceremony today!

We continue to lose stolen sisters and brothers to violence against Indigenous People in Canada. I appreciate the many speakers for sharing their powerful stories and lived experiences at Nanaimo's Red Dress Day event today.

The Day of Mourning is always a day of deep reflection for me. As a union member since the age of 18, I've lost a few union siblings over the years. Most recently, we lost a brother to mental illness who I had worked with for 7 years. We all know someone with a similar story.

I'm honoured to have stood with our local labour leaders today, as we mourn those we've lost, and we continue to fight for better protections for workers. Thanks to our Nanaimo Duncan and District Labour Council team, and their President, John Humphrey, for organizing such a meaningful event each year.

Had lots of fun at the Zonta Club of Nanaimo's International Women's Day event at Royal Canadian Legion Mt Benson Branch 256 today. An inspiring speech by Angelika from Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society!

I also caught up with my former neighbour, and first employer, Lynn! Our Cinnabar Valley crew did great at Women's History trivia!
