👏Big cheers to local businesses like Café Today, for taking steps to reduce waste and becoming a Sort Smart Partner! Their efforts are helping keep food scraps and recyclables out of the garbage and supporting a waste-smart community. ♻️

Businesses, organizations and apartment and condo properties can become Sort Smart Partners by improving waste sorting systems, setting up clear food scraps, recycling and garbage streams, and helping staff and customers sort with confidence. ✅

The RDN can help by providing an assessment, recommendations and training to get you started – and once approved as a Partner, we’ll add your name to our website and provide stickers so you can share with customers how you’re working to help reduce waste.

📣We’re adding more booths to get more youth riding transit for free!

The free youth fare transit program is now underway – and there’s still time to get passes activated for youth aged 13-18.

We’ve added booths this week at local schools to line up with picture days!
📍September 15 at John Barsby Secondary School
📍September 16 at Wellington Secondary School

Passes can also be activated at the RDN’s transit administration building. Check the webpage for any updates/additions to booth schedules!

🎉 Great news for Pickleball-ers 🎉

The new Cedar Community Secondary School Pickleball Courts are complete, and open for play!

A few reminders:
✅ The courts are open for public use outside of regular school hours. Members of the public can play from 4:30 p.m. to dusk on school days, 7 a.m. to dusk on non-school days.
✅ Parking is available on Walsh Road, by the Cedar Skate Park. Do not use the school parking lot.
✅ The courts are for pickleball only – no dogs, in-line skates, skateboards, scooters or bikes!

📣 RDN News: Funding Awarded to Modernize Permit Processes 📣

Plans to improve development and building permit processes at the RDN will now move forward, thanks to a recent grant funding award of $200,000 from the Union of BC Municipalities. The improvements will better serve the public, reduce delays and streamline staff workflows.

The RDN's new Quick Reference Recycling Guide has been mailed to households across the region and is now available online. This handy guide highlights the most common recyclable materials, helps reduce contamination and connects you to our What Goes Where waste wizard for answers to even more recycling questions.
