Stage 3 outdoor water restrictions take effect June 12 for all Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Water Service Areas, except Decourcey and Surfside Water Service Areas, which remain at Stage 4.

Stage 3 lawn sprinkling is allowed one day per week:

• Odd-numbered homes: Monday
• Even-numbered homes: Thursday
• Watering for a maximum of two hours between 7–10 a.m. or between 7–10 p.m.

Vegetable gardens and drip irrigation systems are exempt from these restrictions

Reducing use helps ensure enough water for essential needs.

To view the water service area map and current watering stages, visit rdn.bc.ca/watering-restriction-map. Residents are encouraged to regularly check their specific water provider’s website, as water system capacity and conditions vary across the region.

Beautiful weather is here and so is the heat. Stay safe outdoors with these tips:

• ⏰ Plan ahead—limit activity and run errands early morning or later in the evening
• 💧 Drink plenty of water (even before you feel thirsty)
• 🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car—temperatures rise quickly
• 🧢 Stay cool in the shade and wear a hat, sunscreen and UV-protective eyewear
• 🌳 Head to cooler, breezy spaces like parks with trees or areas near water
• 👷 If you work in the heat, talk with your employer about ways to reduce exposure
• 💙 Check in on neighbors who may need extra support.

🔥 Know before you light.

Fire restrictions can change quickly. BC Wildfire Service sets provincial bans, but local fire departments may have stricter rules in place.

👉 Always check both before lighting a fire.
If in doubt, leave the campfire out - don’t light one.

Even when campfires are allowed, keep them small and always attended. Fully extinguish before leaving.
