If you've completed eligible FireSmart improvements this season, now is the perfect time to submit your application. Remember, this is the last year of guaranteed funding, and available funds are limited.

Wildfire season can change quickly. Taking a few simple steps today can help you stay safe and ready if an evacuation order is issued.

✅ 𝟓 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐨 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐰:

📁 1. 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 - Keep all important documents, medications, and a Grab & Go Kit together and easy to access.
🚗 2. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 - Don't have a vehicle? Start planning now. Talk with trusted neighbours who may be able to help transport you during an evacuation. Exchange contact information and discuss availability during peak fire season. 📞 If no transportation is available during an emergency, call 911.
🏥 3. 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 & 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 - If health concerns could make evacuating more difficult, speak with your healthcare or service providers about support options and recommendations.
📱 4. 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐂 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐩𝐩 - Install the BC Services App on a mobile device that you'll have with you during an evacuation. This can save valuable time at Reception Centres and help you access supports more easily.
👤 5. 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 - Once you've downloaded the app, set up your personal profile so you're ready if an emergency occurs.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be prohibited within the Nakusp Fire Service Area. Please see the attached map for the Fire Service Area boundaries.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires are also currently prohibited throughout the province of British Columbia.
