When it comes to camping, leave only the “Bare” necessities unattended! 🏕️

Keeping a clean campsite is the best way to ensure the safety of wildlife and your fellow campers. 🐻 Only store food attractants in food storage lockers to keep wildlife at bay and your coolers untouched. 🧺

Here are some animal attractants that should NEVER be left unattended, day or night:
🥫 Food, open or closed
🗑️ Garbage and food scraps
🧰 Coolers, empty or full
🍽️ Dishes and barbeques, clean or dirty
🧴 Toiletries, like toothpaste, shampoo, or lotion

✨ Learn more on how to by reading up on Parks Canada’s “Bare” Campsite Program

Join our Nokomis in residence on June 13 for a Changing of the Seasons Ceremony 🌅

"Nokomis" is an Ojibway word that means "my grandmother." The word refers to a maternal and respected Elder woman in a kinship role, who are keepers and sharers of knowledge. 👐

In tomorrow's session, Nokomis Trish will be sharing her knowledge gained from the teachings of her ancestors. 🌬️ Join us for a session of ceremony and storytelling where we foster understanding and living in harmony with the seasons and each other. 🧡

Stay tuned for other Nokomis series taking place in July and August. We hope to see you there!

🪶 Help Us Track Prairie Warblers on Beausoleil Island (Bimadinaagogi)! 🌿

Have you spotted a Prairie Warbler on Beausoleil Island with blue / orange / blue colour bands on its legs? 👀 Your observation could make a real difference!

📸 What to do:
If you see one, please share your sighting with us by email:
📧 [email protected]
Be sure to include details like general location (e.g., Chimney Bay, Honeymoon), date, behaviour, and photos if possible.

🔬 Why it matters:
This collaborative project with the Georgian Bay Land Trust is helping researchers address key knowledge gaps about the Georgian Bay population of Prairie Warblers, including:
• Post-breeding dispersal distances
• Demographic and migratory connectivity
• Habitat use across the landscape
Your contributions will help improve models of critical habitat and support the long-term conservation of this beautiful species.

🙏 Every observation counts—thank you for helping protect Prairie Warblers!

Did you know that May is Invasive Species Action Month? 🪳

Invasive species are non-native plants, animals, insects, and pathogens that threaten the balance of ecosystems. ⚖️🦠 Non-native species can drastically harm the environment, the economy, and human health. 🤒

Here are some common culprits that spread non-native species:
🪵 Burning and moving non-local firewood
🐕‍🦺 Pets and people wandering off trail 👣
🚤 Boats and inflatable floaties
🥾 Dirt-packed footwear, vehicles, clothes, and camping gear
🪱 Parasites within live fishing bait

Help prevent the spread of invasive species by cleaning debris off shoes and equipment, 🧼 staying on marked trails, burning local firewood, and leaving the live bait at home.

🌳 Native Trees Make a Lasting Difference 🌳
Native tree species do more than provide shade. They offer medicine, cultural teachings, and essential habitat for wildlife. Planting native trees also helps prevent invasive species from taking over, supporting healthy, resilient ecosystems.
On Beausoleil Island (Bimadinaagogi), Parks Canada is restoring forests with a strong focus on climate change while honouring tree species that hold deep cultural significance for Indigenous communities.
