Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we take a moment to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters everywhere.

To our own members, and to brothers and sisters across the globe—thank you for showing up when others are running out, for standing strong in the face of danger, and for giving your time, your strength, and your hearts to protect your communities.

Behind every call is a team willing to drop everything, a family who supports from home, and a community that depends on you more than words can say.

We remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and we honour the legacy they’ve left behind.
Stay safe, stay strong, and thank you for everything you do—today and every day. ❤️🔥

Please be advised that Forest Fire Season is in effect for the Island portion of Newfoundland as of today, May 1st,2026 and will start in Labrador on May 15th, 2026.

During forest fire season, a permit from Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Forestry Dept. is required to burn vegetation, wood, or paper. These Burn permits are free and easily accessible, and they help ensure outdoor burning occurs safely. Please adhere to all conditions of the permit if you do need to obtain one. Check out link below for more information and updates.

🚒 FireSmart Season is Here! 🔥

Folks, it’s that time of year again to FireSmart your property!

After seeing how underprepared we were last year—and how lucky we truly got—it’s more important than ever to take action. Even a few simple cleanup tasks around your home can make a big difference in protecting your property and our community.
🌲 Clear away dry brush and debris
🌲 Trim trees and remove low-hanging branches
🌲 Keep your yard tidy and fire-safe

Fire prevention starts with all of us.
If you need help or guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Fire Department. You can also download the “FireSmart Begins at Home” app from FireSmart Canada for tips and checklists.

Let’s work together to stay safe this season!🌼🔥

Our department sends its deepest condolences to Jim's family, friends and to all of SJRFD.

🚨 IMPORTANT EMERGENCY LINE UPDATE — PLEASE READ & SHARE 🚨

As of today, you will notice a change to our paging system, but don’t worry — the number stays the same!
📞 709-655-2800

When you call our emergency line, your call will now be forwarded directly to the Musgrave Harbour Fire Department voicemail.
PLEASE DON’T PANIC.
This voicemail is connected directly to our pagers, and we will be listening in real time while you speak.
After the beep, please clearly say:
🏠 Your address

🚨 Type of emergency
📝 Any other details you feel are important
This new and improved system removes extra steps in dispatching calls and will help us provide an even faster response time for our community.

❤️ We would also like to send a huge THANK YOU to Hillcrest Manor & employees for their many, many years of dedicated service with our dispatching system.

❄️ We know… there’s already a lot of snow on the ground — and it looks like we’re in for more. With all this shovelling, we’re asking for one small but important favour.

If there’s a fire hydrant near your home, please take a few extra minutes to keep it clear of snow.
Why it matters:
•In an emergency, firefighters need to find and access hydrants fast
• Fire trucks can use thousands of litres of water per minute
• Snow-covered hydrants can be hard to spot, even for trained crews
• A clear hydrant helps protect homes, neighbours, and families
What helps most:
✅ Clear about 1 metre (3 feet) around the hydrant
✅ Keep a path open from the road
✅ Avoid piling snow on or around it while shovelling
We know winter keeps us busy, but this small act can make a big difference when seconds truly matter.
Thanks for helping us look out for one another and keep our community safe 💙🔥
