REMINDER: When traffic lights are completely out, you must treat the intersection as an all-way (or four-way) stop.

Come to a complete stop, yield the right-of-way to the first vehicle that arrived. If multiple vehicles arrive simultaneously, yield to the vehicle on your right.

Never coast through an out traffic light, even if there appears to be no cross-traffic!

More women urged to run in fall elections

A good sized crowd gathered Tuesday evening in the multipurpose room of Boundary Trails Health Centre's new Community Services Building for the Pembina Valley Women in Leadership: Trailblazers in Politics event, an evening designed to encourage more women to consider public service and leadership roles in their communities.

The panel brought together women with experience in municipal, provincial, and school board politics, offering attendees a candid look at the opportunities, challenges, and rewards that come with serving in elected office.

Today, parts of southwestern Manitoba could see severe thunderstorms. High winds and heavy rain can knock down tree branches, power lines, and cause extreme flooding. Always stay at least 10 m away and call 911 if you see a downed line. Electrical and natural gas hazards in a flood can put people and property at risk. Review these safety tips to help keep your home and family safe.

Before an expected flood:
✅if your basement is dry, turn off the main power switch
✅make sure your sewer backwater valve and sump pump work to prevent a backup
✅move electrical equipment out of your basement
✅check with us if your natural gas service should be shut off

During a flood:
✅avoid standing water as underground or downed power lines can carry an electric charge
✅watch for submerged poles and low-hanging power lines if travelling by boat
✅do not travel after dark unless it is an emergency as power lines are almost impossible to see

After a flood:
✅do not enter any buildings that may not have had the power disconnected, and are still under water or were flooded
✅call us any time at 1-888-624-9376 to disconnect the power
