Fun weekend in Morrin. Car Show plus Firefighter BBQ, breakfast at museum, sod house open. Fabric sale at Seniors. And garage sales including one at the hall. Except for the weather, there might have been more.

New council on Wednesday. Chris Hall is Mayor, Lorraine MacArthur is Deputy Mayor and M’Liss Edwards the only council member actually elected by the voters is a Councillor.

Nominations for Council are open. Pick up your nomination form at the village office between 10 and 12 any day. Please consider running and encourage others to run.

The Village of Morrin is being administered by a special administrator appointed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs. He is the acting Council. He is very knowledgeable about council business and is making sure all laws and regulations are followed. He has corrected some procedures and administrative duties assigned to the CAO of the village. The CAO answers directly to him.
For example: he has read the bylaw proposed by the former mayor to hire a separate person to handle the finances of the village apart from the current CAO. And he determined it was illegal and contravened the Municipal Act. The Council of a municipality only hires one person. That person then is in charge of hiring all other personnel. Council cannot hire someone else nor can they direct or manage any other employees.
As well a consultant was hired to assist Council to develop a budget for this past year. This person made several mistakes in the budget that the villlage is now stuck with. Plus this person was paid about $3000.
The mayor and the deputy mayor met with a lawyer to seek advice about councils role in managing the position of a CAO. Later the Mayor also met with another municipal lawyer but did not disclose to Council the results of his meeting which cost the village $12000.

This coming week the signs will be moved to the sides. Just to remind people that the threat of COVID-19 still hangs over us and until Alberta is completely free of this we should all be careful. And if the border opens we need to be super careful. It doesn’t resurge.
This is the same as Drumheller. The State of Emergency is lifted for now. But please follow the guidelines put out by provincial authorities. Stay safe.

Absolutely beautiful furniture!

Because of the Health Emergency the village is only open to essential service people and area residents. This included mail box holders and others caring for residents. We are just saying if you don’t have a reason for being in the village please stay home and stay safe.

Morrin Hotel has an awesome new kitchen, new decor and new bar. Open11 am to 1 am. Very very good food!
