The Moose Jaw Police Service appreciates the provincial government’s efforts to ensure police services across Saskatchewan have the tools and support needed to protect our communities.

Great work by the Moose Jaw Police Service utilizing the new provincial Safe Community Spaces Act to protect their community and families.

"It's actually great legislation. It's a great tool for our officers to help keep the city safe," Police Chief Robert Davis said. "The officers have been super keen on it."

PUBLIC ADVISORY:

This weekend, a suspect was arrested in connection with multiple reports of counterfeit currency circulating throughout Moose Jaw. In light of these reports, the Moose Jaw Police Service is urging residents who handle cash, especially $50 and $100 bills, to remain vigilant. Some counterfeit bills may still be in circulation and, as with any such occurrence, there is always the potential for others to be involved.

Residents are also reminded to be cautious when making transactions on Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, and similar platforms where cash is exchanged.

PUBLIC ADVISORY:

Police are advising the public to use caution when approached by out-of-province contractors offering discounted asphalt work. Multiple reports indicate that after completing jobs, these companies demand significantly inflated payments with final costs far exceeding what was verbally discussed.

Reports also indicate that operators often move quickly from community to community, making follow‑up or dispute resolution difficult once payment is made.

To protect yourself, always obtain a detailed written quote before agreeing to any work from a contractor. This helps prevent unexpected charges and reduces the risk of being taken advantage of.

FRAUD SAFETY:

This week, a Moose Jaw resident contacted us to report a scam attempt they received via email. We are sharing this example to help keep the public informed and vigilant online.

In these types of scams, offenders claim to have access to compromising information about the recipient and demand payment as a form of ransom. In the vast majority of cases, these claims are false. Scammers use fear and intimidation tactics and typically do not have access to personal devices or information.

The Moose Jaw Police Service was saddened to learn of the tragic news that Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto was killed in the line of duty. Our sympathies go out to Constable Pinizzotto’s loved ones and colleagues.
