"Recyclable items – think egg cartons, detergent boxes and loose paper – are usually clean and dry. Throwing them into a recycling bin inside a bag makes it trickier to properly sort them when, later, those recyclable items are at the materials recovery facility."

Like many people, Jennifer Hower can think of a million uses for the paper bags she gets in the checkout line at her grocery.
