Using accelerated learning of simple physical techniques, customized answers to specific questions, scenario-based practise, and constant incremental improvement throughout the workshop, the half-day course gives women of all ages a foundational understanding of the issues involved in staying as safe as possible at home, in the workplace, and in the wider urban environment.

P3 tip number 4: Prevention is ALWAYS better than Cure. This one follows up on yesterday's "Most likely location to get attacked" post.
Sadly, Susan McLean and the other women who commented are correct, you are most likely suffer physical/sexual/emotional assault in a private home, either your own home or the home of someone you care about and trust. Or trusted, up until that fateful moment.
Learning to detect AND ACT ON the warning signs of impending danger is the best, simplest, and in fact easiest way to stay safe.
My biggest influence in developing P3 is Gavin de Becker, probably the world's foremost expert on the prediction of violence. There is a FREE risk assessment tool on his website, and I recommend his classic, easy-to-read book, The Gift of Fear.

KungfuPaul's take on yesterday's Tip #2: To vigorously resist your attacker, violently if necessary- Good idea or bad idea?
Well, building on yesterday's answer, using the tool of violence to protect oneself from an attacker should be a decision made by the woman herself, based on her intuition about the specific situation she's in.
However, "Ladies, don't resist cause it'll only make it worse" is a shameful holdover from the 70s, the worst kind of regressive, unempowering, unempathetic, condescending advice that was ever doled out to vulnerable women.
One of my inspirations in developing P3 is the work of self-defense expert Tim Larkin, inventor of TFT- Target Focus Training. He puts it very simply: "The only guaranteed way of successfully surviving a violent situation is to be the one doing the violence."
Seek to live peacefully. If you judge that the time for violence is at hand, do not contribute to your own defeat by employing half-measures.

P3 tip number 3: True or false: The most likely place for a woman to be assaulted is in a secluded public area, eg, the alley behind the club, the underground parking lot, or the darkened street on the way home. What do you all think?

KungfuPaul's take on yesterday's Tip #1:
"Never..."-style advice is something that does not sit well with me. My colleague Sean Lewis hit the nail on the head with his comment- it depends on the specific situation. An "expert" offering one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter rules will not be by your side, should you encounter trouble, and can't possibly have all the information and resources you yourself will have, while you are actively experiencing the aforementioned terrible situation.
Now, regarding the Gun Scenario specifically, I will say that how well you deal with a gun-wielding assailant depends more on your personal Beliefs about fi****ms than on a simple rule or single technique.
