In 2019, Juliano Gray was violently restrained by STM inspectors in Montreal. The video sparked outrage, yet politicians like Craig Sauvé—then part of the administration—stopped short of calling it what it was: excessive use of force.
Fast forward: today, as leader of his own party, Sauvé criticizes the City’s approach to public safety and speaks freely about human rights and criminality.
This is exactly why people lose faith in politics. Too often, leaders change their stance depending on the position they hold. When in power, they stay silent to protect the administration. When in opposition, they suddenly “find their voice.”
Principles shouldn’t depend on political convenience. If politicians can’t speak truth when it matters most, how can Montrealers trust them when they say they’re ready to lead?
