It was wonderful being part of this amazing community event and representing the Toronto Police Basketball Team. While we were grateful to come away with the win, the real highlight was being part of such a positive celebration of community, teamwork and youth development.

Proud to see so much young talent, passion and potential in the community!

Today, I had the privilege of visiting a summer school for newcomer children to Canada, some of whom arrived only a week ago. 🇨🇦

A truly diverse group of bright young people, coming from different parts of the world and beginning a new chapter in Canada.

Programs like this help newcomer children and youth better understand Canadian society, our school system, and everyday life while finding their place in a new country.

The children were incredibly intelligent and curious, asking some brilliant questions about policing, the role of police officers in Canada, their own interests, and so much more.

It was especially meaningful for me because when I first came to Canada, I never had an opportunity to attend a program like this. Seeing these resources available today for newcomer children and youth makes me incredibly grateful.

Thank you JIAS Toronto for the invitation and for hosting such a meaningful program for newcomer children and youth. The positive impact of creating a welcoming environment and helping young people feel connected to their new home cannot be understated. ❤️🇨🇦

12 years ago today, I joined the Toronto Police Service!

A career that wasn’t my childhood dream, and one I never imagined would become such a meaningful part of my life. I didn’t know exactly where this career would take me. Somehow, those 12 years have flown by, yet I can still remember my very first day like it was yesterday.

Looking back, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. One of the things I love most about policing is that there are so many possibilities. You can change units, learn new skills, meet new people, take on new challenges and continue to grow.

But one of the most meaningful parts of this career for me has always been community.

I genuinely enjoy being out in the community, building relationships, connecting with people and finding ways to make a positive difference. Whether it’s working with youth, newcomers, families or community organizations, those moments of connection are some of the most rewarding parts of the career.

And of course, there is another side to policing, one that isn’t always easy to see or talk about. There are days when you see the darkest sides of humanity. You witness horrible crimes, meet people on the worst days of their lives and experience things that stay with you long after your shift ends.

But there is something incredibly reassuring about knowing you chose a career where you and your colleagues are there to stand between vulnerability and danger, to protect those who need it the most, to provide a comforting shoulder when someone’s world is falling apart, and to be a rock for the community when people need one.

12 years in, I am very grateful!

And perhaps what I am most grateful for is that after 12 years, I still have the same passion I had in my first year. The passion and hunger to learn, to grow, to challenge myself, to experience new things and to continue finding ways to serve our community better.

🏀 HOOPS & PURPOSE

I’m excited to introduce Hoops & Purpose, a youth mentorship and basketball program created to connect with young people through sport, mentorship, and community.

As police officers, our role goes beyond responding to calls. It’s also about building relationships, earning trust, and being there for young people before they ever need us.

For newcomer youth especially, having the right people around them can make a real difference. Sometimes, all it takes is one positive role model, one opportunity, or one person willing to say, “I believe in you.”

I first picked up a basketball at 14 years old in high school. I knew nothing about the game, but somehow I still knew who “Michael Jordan” was 😀. Being given the opportunity to play introduced me to a sport that kept me active, gave me a healthy environment to learn and improve, and taught me valuable lessons that have stayed with me to this day.

Hopefully, through Hoops & Purpose, we can give the next generation that same opportunity. 🏀

🏀 THE TPAAA POLICE GAMES ARE BACK! 🏀

After a long wait, the TPAAA Police Games are finally back tomorrow!

We are bringing TPAAA members, their families, and for the first time — fellow first responders together for a day of competition, fitness, fun and camaraderie.

And yes… they made me WORK for this promotional video! You will see the made shots, but what you don’t see are all the misses that came amongst them.

Even the greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry, has made roughly 43% of his three-point attempts over his NBA career. That means even Steph misses more than half the threes he takes.

And that’s the point: missed shots are part of the game and missed opportunities, setbacks and failures are part of life. Things won’t always go the way we planned. What matters is that you keep trying, keep moving forward and don’t let the misses stop you from taking the next shot.

I am incredibly excited to see the Police Games return for the first time since COVID. Tomorrow is about physical and mental health, family and simply having fun.

I was never a professional basketball player, but the game has been one of the greatest teachers of my life.

It has taught me discipline, resilience, teamwork, sacrifice, patience, humility, and how to handle both victory and defeat. It has shown me the joy of winning, the disappointment of falling short, the pressure of big moments, and the importance of never giving up!

Through sports, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world, experience different cultures, and build friendships that will last a lifetime. Those memories and relationships are something that I will always be grateful for.

More than anything, basketball has always been one of my escapes. No matter what life brings, stepping onto the court clears my mind, challenges me physically, and reminds me why I fell in love with the game in the first place at the age of 14 arriving in Canada as a newcomer.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to experience the power of sports. Sometimes the greatest victories aren’t measured by trophies and achievements, but by the person you become along the way!

Team TPAAA (Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association) had a productive meeting with our Chief of Police, Myron Demkiw, this morning.

We discussed our priorities and how we can continue to best serve our members by supporting not only their physical well-being, but their mental well-being as well.

The TPAAA is a unique organization and one of its kind in Canada, providing members with opportunities to participate in more than 30 different sports. We also support fitness facilities across police divisions and specialized units, helping ensure our members have access to the resources they need to stay active and healthy.

We are looking forward to the rest of the year, with a number of exciting events planned for both our members and the community. Together, we’ll continue promoting health, wellness and teamwork amongst our members!

As we say goodbye to the FIFA World Cup 2026, I can’t help but reflect on what an incredible experience it was!

For over a month, the world came together through the beautiful game. It was amazing to see so many different cultures united by one sport.

As a Toronto Police officer, it was an honour to be part of this incredible event. I had the privilege of meeting people from around the world and witnessing moments that I will never forget.

Canada was a wonderful host, and I couldn’t be prouder of how our country welcomed the world with kindness, warmth, and unity.

As the tournament comes to an end, I hope we don’t lose the spirit it created. May we never stop choosing kindness over hate, unity over division, and hope over fear. The world doesn’t need more reasons to be divided, it needs more moments that remind us that we are ONE human family!

Here’s to a future filled with more love, more understanding, and lasting peace for ALL! 🙏
