Canadian Association of Multicultural People (CAMP) is a community based non- profit organization that believes in building bridges through sustainable partnerships and networks.
Our focus is to build community capacity through partnerships and sharing resources for awareness, empowerment and community development for diverse communities.
We have an inter-generational approach working simultaneously for Youth and Seniors as the most vital part of the family framework we believe in restoring, refining and supporting.
We strive to build community capacity through partnership development between main stream and ethnic groups working closer to the pulse of the community and sharing resources.
We support grass root empowerment through education, training and advocacy efforts, with special focus on immigrants and marginalized families. We believe that empowerment means providing skill building opportunities and making low cost/ no cost capacity building opportunities available in neighborhoods where it’s mostly needed.
Since its inception in 2007, Canadian Association of Multicultural People has been prominent on the health promotion field in GTA due to its vibrant networking model and pioneering community projects that empower people and organizations to partner, link, serve, and build capacity for our future leaders.
Our goal is to serve Ontarians through bridge building, skill development, health promotion, family enhancement and culturally appropriate service delivery.
History:
Developed in the spring of 2005, the Canadian Association of Multicultural People in Peel was an innovative Health Promotion group based on the principles of Community Development and comprised of internationally trained professionals with diverse backgrounds. It was incorporated as a community-based agency in 2007.
Primary Purpose and Objective:
CAMP was created to serve the community in the areas of health promotion, family enhancement and skill development through community engagement, partnerships, education, training and advocacy efforts. We created a network for awareness and community development with special focus on new immigrants and marginalized families.
Mission
To serve the multicultural community through partnership, community development, outreach, culturally appropriate service delivery, research, health promotion, developing volunteers from within the community, consulting and promoting diversity.
Vision:
Diverse communities will work together to engage, bridge barriers and to build the community capacity.
Partnership
Canadian Association of Multicultural People works in partnership with other agencies, community groups and stakeholders. It relies on sharing its expertise and penetrating the community by using grass roots community development principles. We strongly believe in building collaborative networks, coalitions and community support groups to achieve common goals and to provide better, unified and structured approach to the communities.
Theoretical Principles of Operation
CAMP operates with a culturally relevant model of operation. Its framework has people centered approach and defines the approach as adjusting the clinical and other services to meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve. This approach is one of the many reasons why this agency has been so successful in achieving community credibility in a very short time.
The organization uses an integrated holistic model to provide skill development and capacity building opportunities for empowerment with a special focus on new immigrant communities. The integrated and cohesive holistic model is defined by the agency as “a model which wraps the individuals and their families in a variety of programs offered by CAMP”.
