The Miramichi Police Force is seeking information regarding a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident that occurred on May 1, 2026, at approximately 9:15 PM in front of the United Church Hall on King George Highway.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact the Miramichi Police Force at 506-623-2124 and reference file # 2026-4469.

Today, a mock accident caused by distracted driving was hosted at the Miramichi Civic Centre. Student actors from École Carrefour Beausoleil, Miramichi Valley High School, and James M Hill Memorial High School, along with members of the Miramichi Police Force, Miramichi Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and 911 Dispatchers, took part in the first responder simulation.

Guest speakers at the event included Chris Matchett, who shared the heartbreaking story of losing his son in a tragic accident, Chief Brian Cummings, and Jean-Guy Savoie, Regional Director of Prosecutions.

All Grade 12 students from schools within the city, along with Grade 12 students from Sunny Corner, Blackville, Neguac, Baie-Sainte-Anne, and Rogersville, were invited to attend the event.

This event was organized through the collaboration of local first responders, school staff, district office personnel, audiovisual and technical crews who set up the event at the Civic Centre, along with others who played a role in creating and supporting this impactful event. The goal was to educate students on the devastating consequences of distracted driving and the lasting impact it can have on families, friends, first responders, and the entire community.

We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who had any part in making this event possible, as well as everyone who attended, no matter what your role may have been. Through education, awareness, and open conversation, we hope events like this can help prevent future tragedies and encourage safer choices behind the wheel.
