25 years later, we remember. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Today, we honour the first responders who stepped forward on September 11, 2001, answering the call to help those in need.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and countless others who showed extraordinary courage and compassion. We honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember. We honour. May we never forget. 🕯 🙏 ❤️

🚑 A new approach to medical 911 calls is coming to Perth County this fall. Perth County Paramedic Services and the London Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC) are introducing the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) for all medical 911 calls.

MPDS uses a clinically driven approach to help ensure the right resources are sent to the right patient at the right time, with life-threatening emergencies receiving the most urgent response.

📞 What can you expect when calling 911?
Emergency Medical Dispatchers will ask more detailed, scripted questions about the patient’s condition and location. Paramedics will be dispatched while you are still answering questions, so these additional questions do not delay the response.
The goal: the right care, at the right time, for the people who need it most.

⚡ POWER OUTAGE & GENERATOR SAFETY ⚡

Power outages can happen during severe weather, but using a generator incorrectly can create a serious carbon monoxide (CO) hazard.

🚨 Remember:
• Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, shed, or any enclosed or partially enclosed space.
• Keep generators outside and well away from doors, windows, and vents.
• Never use a gas-powered generator to heat your home.
• Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working.

Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless, and can be deadly. If your CO alarm sounds, leave the building immediately and call 911 from a safe location.

Stay safe, stay informed, and remember: when the power goes out, safety still comes first. 🚒

Our crews continue restoring power after yesterday’s severe thunderstorms that caused broken poles, downed power lines, and damage to electrical equipment.

Restoration efforts are prioritized to return power to the greatest number of customers in the shortest amount of time. Estimated restoration times may change once crews arrive and assess damage onsite.

Report an outage by:
• Texting 92887 (WATTS)
• Using our outage map or app
• Calling 1-800-434-1235

⚠️ If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres and report it to 911 and Hydro One. If using a generator, always place it outdoors and away from windows and vents.

🚒 That’s a wrap at Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp and Retreat Centre! ☀️💦

This week we wrapped up our third and final visit to Hidden Acres Camp this summer—and what a great time it was!

We spent some time talking with campers about important fire safety topics, including:
🔥 The importance of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
🏠 Home escape planning and knowing two ways out
🔋 Safe charging of lithium-ion batteries

And, of course, no fire department visit would be complete without a fire truck! 🚒 The kids got to learn more about what firefighters do, see our bunker gear, and even take a turn on the hose. On a hot summer day, getting a little wet was definitely a bonus! 💦😎

A big thank you to the campers and staff at Hidden Acres Camp for having us back this summer. We always enjoy getting out into the community, connecting with our youngest residents, and sharing some important fire safety lessons along the way!

Stay safe, stay cool, and remember—fire safety is for everyone! ❤️‍🔥

Living on your own for the first time?

Whether you're staying on or off campus, here’s what you need to know:

🔥Make sure working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed outside of all sleeping areas and on every storey - (test them!)

🔥Two ways to escape any room in case of a fire (plan and practice it!)

🔥 Remember to change the batteries on the alarms every year (or ask your landlord!)

🏕 Camping and cottage nights are for relaxing - not reacting

With peak season in full swing, campfires and BBQs are everywhere. But one unattended flame can spread fast in dry conditions. 🔥

Don’t leave until it’s out:
✅ Pour water on it
✅ Stir it up to ensure no hidden embers
✅ Make sure it’s completely cool

Because the only thing that should be spreading this summer is good vibes. ✌️💓
