With summer vacation winding down and children returning to school soon, Alberta RCMP is reminding the public to remain vigilant when it comes to safety around lakes, rivers, and pools. Fleeting summer days may encourage extended outdoor activity, but safety should remain the top priority.

Important Water Safety Tips:

Remember to always supervise children and inexperienced swimmers.
Follow all posted safety rules at beaches, lakes, and recreational areas.
Boating or swimming while impaired puts you and other waterway users at risk. Just like driving a car, it is illegal to operate a boat while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
If you are heading out on the water, plan your trip and let someone know where you are travelling and when you are expected to return. Do not take to open water without an understanding of where you are or where you are going.
Boaters should make sure their watercraft is equipped with mandatory boat safety equipment including enough life jackets for everyone on board, signaling devices, and bailing containers. Always bring emergency supplies like extra food, water, clothing, and a cell phone.
Be aware of your swimming limits and abilities. Fatigue and exhaustion while swimming can cause drowning.
Wearing a lifejacket or personal flotation device (PFD) can save your life and it is the best insurance you can have on or near the water. Remember, lifejackets only work when they are worn.

Alberta RCMP have passed this information on to us to pass on to residents. Alberta RCMP warns Albertans of fraudulent text messages targeting health card information
Edmonton, Alta. – The Alberta RCMP is warning the public about a fraudulent text message circulating in Alberta that falsely claims recipients’ health cards are no longer valid and require replacement through an online application.
The scam message appears to come from a government agency and advises recipients that they must transition to a new “Electronic Health Identification System” to maintain access to health-care services. The message includes a link directing individuals to provide personal information.
The Alberta RCMP reminds the public that government agencies will not send unsolicited text messages requesting personal, financial, or health information through an online link.
Fraudsters often use urgent language, official-looking messages, and requests for immediate action to pressure victims into providing sensitive information. These scams may attempt to collect personal details that can be used for identity theft or other fraudulent activity.
The Alberta RCMP reminds you of the following steps if you receive a suspicious message:
• Do not click on any links or open attachments.
• Do not provide personal, banking, or health information.
• Delete the message immediately and if possible, block the number associated with the message.
• Verify information directly through an official government website or phone number.
Anyone who believes they have provided personal or financial information to a scammer should contact their financial institution and report the incident to their local police service. You can also report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or by calling 1-888-495-8501.

The International St. Mary and Milk Rivers Study Board invites you to attend one of three public meetings this August to learn about the study’s draft recommendations, ask questions, and share your feedback before recommendations are finalized.

We encourage anyone interested in the future of the St. Mary and Milk Rivers to attend.
The public meetings will be held at the following locations:
1. August 4, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. MDT – Best Western Plus Havre Inn & Suites, Havre, Montana (1425 2nd St NW, Havre, MT 59501)
2. August 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. MDT – Milk River Civic Centre, Milk River, Alberta (321 3 Ave NE, Milk River, AB T0K 1M0)
3. August 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. MDT – Excite Lethbridge, Lethbridge, Alberta (101 Exhibition Wy S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4R3)
These meetings are important as the recommendations from this report will be used to determine management of water for our area.
