Congratulations to the 2026 Heritage Appreciation Award recipients, Allen and Rachel Suke!

At the June 3, 2026, Town Council Meeting, Allen and Rachel were officially recognized for their stewardship of the former Midland Public (Carnegie) Library at 526 Hugel Avenue and for their commitment to preserving its heritage value.

The building’s original façade and interior have been carefully maintained, reflecting the Beaux-Arts and classical influences characteristic of Carnegie libraries. Notable features include a symmetrical front façade, prominent staircase, front gable, and a large front porch with classical details and supporting columns.

The Town of Midland will not proceed with awarding the proposed Midland Bay Landing development project following Council’s review of the proposals and considering community input for this once-in-a-lifetime parcel of waterfront.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, Town Council determined that, under current market conditions, it would be challenging to advance the proposal in a way that appropriately advances the Town’s strategic priorities and the vision for the site informed through community engagement.

Community engagement had identified key priorities for the site, including considerations related to waterfront access, scale, land use, and long-term community benefit. Council considered these perspectives alongside broader economic factors in reaching its decision.

Please read today's full announcement for more information:
