Interested in helping your community during an emergency?

Check out the new volunteer opportunities with the Simcoe Emergency Response Volunteers (SERV)! SERV members are divided into three teams and support emergency communications, evacuation shelters, and field operations such as sandbagging, flood barrier deployment, and wellness checks.

This program is designed to work alongside existing volunteer groups, strengthening our overall response and helping ensure Simcoe County is prepared for whatever lies ahead.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week!

Emergencies can happen at any time, from severe storms and flooding, to extended power outages and other unexpected events. Taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference later.

Residents are encouraged to:

- Build or update an emergency kit
- Create a family emergency plan
- Stay informed through trusted local sources
- Know the risks in your community

A great example of collaboration today in Orillia. City staff deployed provincially supplied flood barriers with support from County Emergency Management and volunteers from St. John Ambulance and Georgian Bay Volunteer Search & Rescue to reduce flooding impacts in low-lying areas. Today the Ministry of Natural Resources issued a flood warning for areas around the Severn & Black rivers as well as Sparrow Lake and Lake St. John. Higher than normal water levels and flow conditions are present throughout the area.
Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, check for updated messages, and exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams. Take precautions to protect/secure vulnerable property close to waterbodies and maintain close supervision of children and pets. County of Simcoe
