Don't forget to stop by the LNIB Firehall and Nominate Community for "Caught You Being Awesome" for the Month of May! We have some awesome giveaways.

Shout out to the Winners for the month of April.
Shawn Gambler (Staff Edition) and Iris Pinyon (Community Edition)!

🔥 CAUGHT YOU BEING AWESOME – COMMUNITY EDITION 🔥

Our community is built on people who care — and we see it every day.

From neighbours helping neighbours, to families taking pride in their yards, to people going the extra mile to keep our lands clean and safe — these actions matter. They make our community stronger, safer, and something we can all be proud of.

That’s why LNIB Fire & Rescue is launching “Caught You Being Awesome – Community Edition.”

👀 If you see someone:

• Cleaning up garbage or helping keep the land clean
• Mowing lawns, trimming trees, or maintaining their property
• FireSmarting their home and reducing wildfire risk
• Helping a neighbour or lending a hand
• Showing kindness, respect, and leadership in the community
• Going above and beyond to make our community better

👉 Stop by the fire hall, grab a nomination slip, and drop it in the jar.

Important: This is about recognizing others — you cannot nominate yourself.

🎁 Monthly Draws!
At the end of each month, we’ll draw a couple of names for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

This will be ongoing, so keep your eyes open and keep lifting each other up.

Together, we can:
🔥 Build a safer, FireSmart community
🌿 Take pride in our homes and land
🤝 Support one another
🧡 Create a culture of respect and care

Let’s continue working together, having each other’s backs, and recognizing the good all around us.

Strong Community. Safe Community. Proud Nation.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Tony Allen.

Tony made a lasting impact on our fire hall, our members, and our entire community. He touched many lives, inspired those around him, and mentored countless individuals—passing on skills, knowledge, and values that continue to live on in the work we do today.

He was a kind and dedicated man who gave so much of his time and energy to protecting our people and serving our community.

On behalf of Lower Nicola Indian Band Fire & Rescue, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Tony's family, friends, and the many firefighters he worked alongside over the years.

Rest easy, Tony. Thank you for everything you gave. 🖤🔥

FIRE SMART STARTS AT HOME 🔥

Let’s protect our homes, our families, and our land — together.

🏡 START AT HOME

• 🧹 Clean up your yard — dry grass, leaves, pine needles… all of it
• 🪵 Move woodpiles at least 10m away (don’t let them be your home’s worst enemy 😅)
• 🧽 Clean your gutters + roof (yes… even the spots you don’t want to deal with)

🌲 CREATE SPACE (DEFENSIBLE SPACE)

• ✂️ Trim branches up 2m from the ground
• 🌿 Space out trees and shrubs — don’t let them “hold hands” all the way to your house
• 🪨 Use gravel/rock near your home instead of flammable landscaping

🔥 REDUCE FIRE HAZARDS

• ⛽ Move propane tanks away from buildings
• 🚫 Keep fuel, debris, and junk piles cleared
• 🚗 Make sure your driveway is clear for emergency access (we love visiting… just not like that)

🚒 BE READY

• 🔢 Make sure your address is clearly visible
• 🧭 Know your evacuation routes
• 🎒 Have a grab & go bag ready (don’t be packing while we’re knocking on your door)

🧯 WHY THIS MATTERS

• ❤️ Protects your home + family
• 🔥 Slows down wildfire spread
• 🚒 Helps firefighters do their job safely
• 🌎 Protects the land we all share

🪶 FROM OUR COMMUNITY TO OUR COMMUNITY

Taking care of the land is something we’ve always done.
FireSmart BC just another way we look out for each other — our homes, our families, and future generations.

💬 REAL TALK

Wildfire doesn’t wait.
The work you do now could be what saves your home later.

👉 If you’re not sure where to start, reach out — we’re here to help.

🔥 Cultural Burning Notice – Rocking Pines Area 🔥

We have recently completed cultural burning behind the Rocky Pines Centre as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire risk and support healthy land stewardship.

⚠️ Please avoid this area until further notice.
There are dangerous trees (widowmakers) and unstable conditions that may pose a safety risk.

Our crews will be reassessing the area and addressing hazards as conditions allow. We will notify the community once it is safe to return.

Thank you for your understanding and helping keep our community safe.
