We are removing the portable skate ramps recently installed at the East Glen Rink, and temporarily pause the pilot project.

The decision to move the ramps was made based on resident feedback, which indicated that the ramps produced excessive noise levels when in use.

Pausing the pilot project provides staff with the opportunity to further enhance the all-around enjoyment of this exciting new outdoor recreational amenity for all residents.

We can't wait to find the right solution and get these ramps back out for all to enjoy!

We want to thank you for your patience as we devoted our resources and attention to the distressing incident this week. Council highlights took a back seat, but they are now ready for you to read.

During Monday's Council meeting, City Council approved:
💠 amendments to the City's Hedging Policy,
💠 a $25,000 budget amendment to highlight the City of Medicine Hat through sponsoring the Grand Slam of Curling
💠 an amendment to the City of Medicine Hat's Water Management and Adaptation Strategy to capture $245,000 approved grant funding towards the project (no new City funds).

Council also adopted Phase 1 of the Airport Master Plan Project and gave first reading to a bylaw to subdivide and redesignate two legal parcels of land to enable the Department of National Defense to purchase the land they currently lease for their local armouries.

A delegation from the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 made a call for volunteers and provided an update about the games that will occur in Medicine Hat this August.

Echo Dale Regional Park will reopen on Friday, June 19 at 7 a.m.

As the City continues to support staff affected by Monday’s tragic event, the swim lake will remain closed until further notice. The lake will be drained, as staffing levels are currently insufficient to safely supervise the site or manage restricted access. All other park amenities will reopen.

Keeping the swim lake closed will allow the City to focus available aquatic staff and resources on safely operating other open pool facilities while maintaining appropriate supervision standards.

We thank our community for its patience, understanding, and compassion during this difficult time.

All City aquatic facilities, with the exception of Echo Dale Regional Park, have now resumed operations. City operated pools had been temporarily closed to allow staff to connect with supports and resources following the tragic incident at Echo Dale Regional Park.

Operations have resumed at public aquatic facilities, including:

Kinsmen Aquatic Park at Big Marble Go Centre
Crestwood Pool
Strathcona Pool
Hill Pool

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as our staff work through this difficult time. While facilities have reopened, future service interruptions may be required as we continue to support our employees and accommodate their needs.

Echo Dale Regional Park remains closed at this time. We will share additional updates as information becomes available.

Our staff continues cleanup around the city today after yesterday’s severe weather incident.

Work is ongoing to removed downed trees found in parks and public spaces. We’re also inspecting all our parks to identify any additional hazards brought on by the wind, rain and hail.

And, whether it’s after a storm like this, or any time year-round, we encourage residents to use our Report a Problem portal. If you spot any hazard or issue on City property, these can be submitted as a service ticket or by giving us a call.

Submit a ticket on the Report a Problem portal: https://reportaproblem.medicinehat.ca/

Or view a list of commonly required numbers on our Report a Problem webpage: medicinehat.ca/home-property-utilities/utilities/report-a-problem/

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while we work hard to clean up the damage from yesterday.
