The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) is aware of social media posts circulating that reference schools in the Medicine Hat area as part of a concerning online trend. Similar posts have appeared in communities across North America and may involve AI-generated or edited images, videos, or messages intended to create fear or concern.

MHPS wants to reassure parents, students, staff, and community members that any information suggesting a threat to a school is taken seriously. When concerns are brought forward, they are assessed in collaboration with school officials to determine credibility and ensure appropriate measures are taken.

Community members are encouraged to avoid sharing unverified information, rumours, or screenshots that may contribute to unnecessary anxiety. If you see a concerning post, message, image, or behaviour involving students or schools, please do not repost or share it online. Instead, preserve the information if safe to do so, such as by taking a screenshot or noting the account name, date, time, and platform, and report it directly to school administration or MHPS.

MHPS is also aware of reports that some individuals may be taking this trend further by dressing in costumes and approaching or following students. This behaviour is concerning and should be reported immediately. Anyone who witnesses behaviour that creates an immediate safety concern should call 911. Non-emergency information can be reported to MHPS at 403-529-8481.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to speak with their children about personal safety, reporting suspicious behaviour to a trusted adult, and avoiding the spread of unverified social media content.

Congratulations, Michele! Starting Thursday, Sept 10, 2026, Michele Frey will step into the role of Vice Principal at Vincent Massey School.

Michele has been a dedicated member of the MHPSD family since 2001, spending more than 25 years supporting students, staff and families through a variety of teaching and leadership roles. Her passion for student success, strong relationships, and collaborative leadership has positively impacted school communities across our division.

BUSSES RUNNING LATE or showing up early? We appreciate your patience as we deal with busses over capacity, construction, new drivers and new bus routes which lead to delays, increased wait times and uncertainty about when the bus will arrive. In the first couple weeks of school bus transportation can be a bit unpredictable.

What can you do to help? If a bus arrives significantly early or late (more than 10 minutes), please contact Southland at (403) 526-4655 right away, their dispatch team can investigate and tell you when to expect the bus. We appreciate your patience and feedback as it helps us improve the service for everyone.

We understand that transportation delays can be challenging for families; this is temporary. With each school day, routes become familiar to new drivers, ridership stabilizes and services become more consistent. We are working with Southland Transportation to address challenges and are confident that the system will settle into a smooth and more predictable routine in the weeks ahead. It’s back to school time for everyone in including our School Resource Officers! 📚🚔🚌

The MHPS SROs work closely with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community to promote safety, build positive relationships, and provide education on issues affecting youth. As another school year begins, our SROs are excited to return to the classroom, reconnect with students and staff, and welcome those who are new to their schools.

The goal of the SRO Program is to provide a visible police presence within schools and work with students, staff, and parents to create safe learning environments while building positive relationships between youth and the MHPS.

Returning to the schools this year are several familiar faces. Constable Brent Bohrn will once again be serving Crescent Heights High School, while Constable Jason Van Mulligen will be working with students and staff at Medicine Hat High School. Both officers are looking forward to reconnecting with returning students and staff and welcoming those who are beginning a new school year.

Joining them are Constable Chris Mueller, who will be serving Monsignor McCoy High School, Notre Dame Academy & St. Mary’s School, and Constable Mackenzie Kipta, who will be working with students and staff at Alexandra Middle School / The Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Center & The Pathways School.

Together, the SRO team will be present throughout the school year to support school communities, provide education on a variety of youth-related topics, and serve as a trusted resource for students, parents, and educators.

Sgt. Travis Funk is the new supervisor of the Community Support Unit and is a liaison to all the schools within Medicine Hat. Further, Sgt. Funk coordinates the Encouraging Positive Informed Choices (EPIC) program, police coverage for local special events, community engagement where resources allow, and extra duty events.Sgt.
