A beautiful celebration of culture and community at the George Davison School Mosaic Culture Day. Students and their families proudly shared their cultures through food, traditional games, music, dance, dress, and more. It was a day that everyone looks forward to; the space was filled with incredible aromas, vibrant experiences, fabulous outfits and a true sense of belonging.

A highlight this year was the long, family-style table that brought everyone together, creating space to connect, share stories, and learn from one another. Events like this help build understanding, strengthen relationships, and ensure every person feels welcome and valued. The school’s garden club also added a thoughtful touch, sending visitors home with their very own vegetable plant.

We invite you to take time during National Indigenous History Month to reflect on the lands where we live, learn and work. By exploring Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives, we can deepen our understanding of one another and build lasting relationships and respect that we carry forward together.

What is your favourite way to reflect on the land?

We welcome Jason Chamakese into our schools this week in honour of , a time to recognize and celebrate the culture, history and important traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

Jason Chamakese is a Plains Cree musician and storyteller from Pelican Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan. A fluent Plains Cree speaker, he uses flute music and personal stories to share cultural teachings. He speaks about how continuous learning expands our worldview and breaks down barriers, especially when we remain curious about people, their cultures and languages. Through stories and music rooted in First Nations traditions, he helps preserve history and pass down knowledge to the mind and heart. Ultimately, Jason emphasized that determination, kindness, and compassion are key to challenging misconceptions and truly understanding one another.

At MHPSD we continue our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student success. We deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives through cultural teachings, stories and traditions.

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the past, expand our understanding, and work together toward reconciliation.
