Every year the Friends of Frontenac, along with Frontenac Provincial Park, team up together to choose one lucky student ranger to present the Friends of Frontenac bursary to. Although we wish we could award all of our hardworking student rangers a little something for their post-secondary adventures, there was one student who stood out above the rest.

This year we awarded the Friends of Frontenac bursary to Sarah! Sarah has been with Frontenac Park for two seasons and during this time she has worked in both the backcountry maintaining campsites, trails and portages as well as spent some time working in the office registering visitors, answering questions and providing trip planning advice. There's never a dull moment with Sarah. Sarah brings a positive attitude and laughs, does her best at any task at hand, and is always there to lend a hand to those who need it.

Now that the summer season has ended, Sarah will be heading to Sault College for her first year of Natural Resources and Environmental Enforcement. Thank you for all your hard work, Sarah.

This is Ella's fourth year with Frontenac Park. Her favourite part about working at the park is meeting everyone that comes in and her favourite spot in Frontenac is the Big Salmon Lake lookout. She hopes to visit Sleeping Giant Provincial Park one day.

Have you ever noticed strips of bark, especially birch bark, missing along the trail?

While birch bark has a long history of being used for creating canoes, baskets, containers, and other artwork through sustainable practices - stripping bark from living trees can seriously injure, or even kill, the tree.

A tree's bark is its protective armour. Just beneath the bark is a layer which transports water and nutrients throughout the tree. When bark is removed, the tree becomes vulnerable to insects, disease, and dehydration.

Help us protect the forests that make Frontenac Park so special:
🍃 leave bark, plants, rocks, and other natural features where you found them.
📸 Take photos instead of souvenirs.
💚 Leave no trace so future generations can enjoy these forests for generations to come.
