Exciting changes to first time homebuyers and newly built homes property transfer tax exemptions!!

As of April 1, 2024, the threshold for the first time home buyer exemption for property transfer tax will be increased from a fair market value of $500,000 to $835,000, with the first $500,000 exempt from the tax.
The newly built home exemption for purchasers who buy a new home for their principal residence will increase from $750,000 to $1.1 million on the fair market value.

Three major changes are being made to the Government of British Columbia’s Property Transfer Tax (PTT) framework starting in 2024/2025.
