The NIPD 2026 Artist Spotlight celebrates Indigenous artists, dancers, and cultural knowledge keepers who continue to share their gifts, stories, and traditions with their communities and future generations. Through art, movement, and cultural expression, each featured artist reflects the strength, resilience, and diversity of Indigenous Peoples across these territories.

National Indigenous Peoples Day 2026 - “Keeper of the Seasons – Honouring the Summer Solstice”

We are thrilled to congratulate artist Rachel Drager on winning the logo contest for NIPD 2026.
Rachel Drager is a part Cree and part European artist living on the traditional lands of the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Peoples. Her family has lived on the Coast Salish territories for four generations and across Canada for as long as family history is known.

Rachel’s learning and inspiration come from the land and the natural living sources around her. She also learns through city and community websites, local establishments, and by connecting with community members wherever she goes throughout the Coast Salish, Stl'atl'imc, Secwépemc, and Tsilhqot'in Nations. These relationships, along with the research and connections she receives while living here, help shape and inspire her work.
Her art created for the Fraser River Indigenous Society reflects the thoughtfulness and understanding she has developed through learning about the organization and the lands connected to it.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all the incredible Indigenous artists who submitted their work — your creativity and vision continue to inspire and uplift our communities.

This Wednesday, FRIS, Community Services, and MCFD hosted the Flower Moon Event, creating a beautiful opportunity for families and community members to gather, connect, and celebrate together. The day was filled with smiles, conversation, and a strong sense of community that could be felt throughout the event.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make the gathering possible. The kindness, energy, and support shared by everyone involved helped create a welcoming space where families could relax, enjoy themselves, and feel connected. Events like this are a reminder of how important it is to continue building relationships, uplifting one another, and creating spaces where people feel they belong. We appreciate every person who contributed to making the Flower Moon Event such a positive and memorable experience.
