The Luseland Police Service has been receiving an increasing amount of scam and fraud files.

Anyone can become a victim of a fraud.
To help protect yourself we recommend following the advice of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre:

-Don’t be afraid to say NO. If an unknown person calls, don’t be afraid to hang up

-Do your research. Scammers can use deceptive emails and phone numbers to impersonate legitimate organizations.

-Do not give out personal information including:
~Name
~Address
~Your birthdate
~Social Insurance number
~Credit Card or banking information

REMEMBER THAT IF YOU DIDN’T INITIATE THE CALL, YOU DON’T KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO.

-Do not click on unknown links
-Install anti-virus software on your computer
- Frequently change account passwords and do not use the same password for multiple accounts
-Enable multi-factor authentication

What to do if you think you’ve been scammed:

-Immediately notify your financial institution
-Report to police
-Report to Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

If you are unsure about a call, email, text message, etc. please call our police service and we can help you verify legitimacy.
