It's hard to imagine that on March 26th in 1921, those present on the shore of Lunenburg knew what would come of the day's festivities. Who could have predicted that Bluenose would become the pride of Nova Scotia — an undefeated racing champion and Canadian icon? Perhaps those who built the unmatched vessel had an inkling. In time, all would come to revere the legendary Grand Banks fishing schoone

There is perhaps no other rigging job more satisfying than 'bending on' the sails. It's THE moment in the season when we can really feel how close we are to sailing.

It's also one of those traditional practices that connects us to the schooner sailors and practices of the past. We use the same methods the old schooner crews would have used: the same knots and muscle memory, and the same smile of satisfaction when it's all done and you really start to see what a rigged schooner looks like.
