Bluenose II

Bluenose II Nova Scotia's Sailing Ambassador They were there to launch the Bluenose. What they set in motion was a legacy that continues to this day. The story continues.

It's hard to imagine that on March 26th in 1921, those present on the shore of Lunenburg knew what would come of the day's festivities. Who could have predicted that Bluenose would become the pride of Nova Scotia — an undefeated racing champion and Canadian icon? Perhaps those who built the unmatched vessel had an inkling. In time, all would come to revere the legendary Grand Banks fishing schoone

r. Today, the spirit and history live on in Bluenose II. As Nova Scotia's sailing ambassador, Bluenose II is a proud representative of our province and our maritime heritage. On September 6th, sailors from around the world set off on the Golden Globe Race: a solo, non-stop, old-school-instruments-only race around the world. It might be the toughest sailing race, taking months to complete.

Kirsten Neuschäfer, who won the 2022 Golden Globe Race (the first woman ever to do it!), joined us aboard Bluenose II in 2023. Turns out she carried a piece of us with her the whole way around the world, having tucked a Canadian dime beneath her mast for good luck.

Fair winds and following seas to everyone setting sail this weekend. We'll be watching from Lunenburg! 🌊

We have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel our trip to Yarmouth and head back to Lunenburg on Sept. 3 due to an incoming weather system.

Safety is our top priority and while we are sad to miss Yarmouth this year, we need to do what’s best and safest for the crew and ship.

Thank you for your understanding. 💙

September is one of the best months to sail in Nova Scotia. The breeze tends to be a bit stronger, the light gets that late-summer gold, and the towns quiet down.

We are sailing until September 30, and we've added some evening sails! Come feel the wind and experience Bluenose II before we tuck her in for the season.
