On Tuesday, September 1st, BTIERA welcomed members of the Mahone Bay Inshore Rescue to Big Tancook Island!
The visit gave the two organizations a chance to sit down together, share information, and talk through how they can best support one another when emergencies happen on the water.
For those who don't know them yet, Mahone Bay Inshore Rescue is the crew watching the water from Peggy's Cove to Rose Bay from mid-May until mid-September. They are stationed at the Oak Island Marina & Outdoor Adventure Centre and usually show up for a call in under 18 minutes. The boats are run by trained post-secondary students hired through the Canadian Coast Guard.
BTIERA is grateful for the visit and for the strong, growing working relationship between the two organizations. Knowing who to call and how we can help eachother makes a real difference when it counts, and BTIERA is glad to have partners like Mahone Bay Inshore Rescue watching the water alongside them. ⚓

We were truly busting at the seams at yesterday’s BTIERA bottle drive! 🍾♻️

We are so grateful to all of the amazing volunteers who came out to lend a hand. There were so many donations that we weren’t able to get everything sorted and counted in one round, so we’ll have to gather again soon to finish the job. We hope to see you there!

We’re thrilled to share that the total donation from our first load is $1,270.90!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated bottles, volunteered their time, and supported this great cause. Your generosity and community spirit mean so much!

Only a few days left before 2026 carnival time! We hope to see you there to have fun and help support our emergency response association and the Tancook Island Recreational Centre.

For those who are new here - and those that are just curious!

Our carnival is more than just a really great way to spend an afternoon on Big Tancook - we are a fundraising event!

The primary recipients of our fundraising efforts are the Tancook Island Recreational Centre and Big Tancook Island Emergency Response Association (BTIERA).

Both associations are exceptionally important to our island life, one who offers space for our community to gather, socialize, celebrate, dance, learn and play, and the other offering emergency services in times of need for fire, motor vehicle collisions, medical first response and more - it's integral as an island community to have a team of on island volunteers willing to step up and help their neighbours in times of need.

The funds raised from this weekend's event will go towards keeping the Recreation Centre a safe welcoming place for all, and helping BTIERA inch ever closer to their goal of constructing a much needed firehall for proper year round storage of their vehicles.

DATE CHANGE!
Due to the impending weather, the Bottle Drive has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 27th at 8:30am.
We hope that you'll volunteer, so that we can clear out the building before the much-anticipated Big Tancook Island Summer Carnival

We are looking for volunteers to help out with our bottle drive on Sunday, August 23rd, at 8:30am and sure would appreciate your help. If you have recyclables to donate, put them to roadside before 8am on the morning of the 23rd, drop them off at the recycling depot or contact a BTIERA member for pick-up. Thank you for your support!

Our Emergency Response Association will be hosting our last barbecue of the season on Sunday, September 27, 2026!

Along with our “Prizes of the Day,” we’ll also be holding our final raffle draw, with lots of great prizes up for grabs!

Come on out, enjoy some good food and great company, and help us wrap up the summer season on a high note. We hope to see you all there!
