Loon Point
by Carrie Clausen
This story takes place in the northern woods at The Last Resort, a family business run by Norry. It’s the quiet winter season when a blizzard changes everything.
First, an eight-year-old girl named Lizzie shows up needing care while her troubled mother struggles with addiction. Then comes Wendell, a grumpy old man whose house literally collapses around him during the storm. Nori suddenly finds herself caring for both of them.
And then there’s Bud — the kind-hearted handyman Norry went to school with — always showing up to help when things fall apart. As winter fades and the resort heads into its busy season, Nori realizes she spends so much time taking care of everyone else that she rarely lets anyone care for her. Maybe Bud is the one person willing to try.
This book was cozy, heartfelt, and emotional without being overly heavy. The setting felt quiet and comforting, even during the stormy moments, and I really enjoyed the relationships between the characters.
