Celebrate Islamic Heritage Month this October through art, language, and creativity. ✨

Join artist Soheila Esfahani for Discover Islamic Calligraphy, a beginner-friendly workshop exploring how written language can be both communication and visual art.

Using traditional tools like the Qalam, or reed pen, and ink, participants will learn basic techniques and create their own calligraphy-inspired art.

No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

One year in the renewed Sherwood Branch Library. ✨

Since reopening on September 5, 2025, Sherwood Branch Library quickly became a busy and welcoming space for the community. Attendance has increased more than 30% since the branch re-opened. Sherwood welcomed 122,000 visitors this July alone!

Now, one year later, we’re looking back at the transformation and celebrating a year of reading, learning, gathering, creating, and connecting in this refreshed space.

You asked, and we listened! 🏫

After our call for London high school yearbooks, many of you asked which schools and years the Ivey Family London Room is still looking for. We now have a specific list you can check to see if your old yearbook is one we need.

Yearbooks can help preserve names, faces, stories, and memories from schools across the city, but we can only accept materials that are in good condition and not already in the collection.

Before bringing any materials to the Library, please check the list and contact the London Room. Staff will confirm whether your yearbook is needed and share next steps.

“Librarians saved my internal life.”

Gloria Steinem spent decades challenging expectations, advocating for equality and using writing as a tool for change. She was also a lifelong reader who spoke often about the profound role libraries played in her own life.

As a child who moved frequently, Steinem found freedom in libraries and in the librarians who encouraged her to read widely. Years later, she praised libraries for making knowledge available to everyone, protecting ideas and histories that might otherwise be lost, and creating spaces where people can gather, learn and organize.

Steinem died on September 2 at the age of 92. We’re remembering her today not only for her enormous influence as a journalist, author and feminist activist, but also for the value she placed on curiosity, access to information and the freedom to read.

Our staff have put together a reading list featuring Steinem’s work and books that reflect the ideas and movements she helped bring into public conversation. 📚

We’re looking for Teen Advisory Group volunteers ages 14–17 to help shape Library services for teens, earn volunteer hours, meet new people, and be part of creative projects at Central Library.

Members meet once a month to share ideas, plan activities, talk about books, games, music, and more, and help make the Library a welcoming space for teens.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Envoy Connect players have been added to our Visiting Library Service collection.

These smaller, lighter players offer another accessible option for patrons who may find them easier to hold, learn, and use independently.
