HMCS PREVOST, named after HMS Lady Prevost, a schooner brig serving with the Lake Erie Squadron, so named in honor of the wife of Sir George Prevost, the then Governor General of Canada and Commander-in-Chief, of the British Forces in North America. The commissioning pennant was therefore hoisted on the 1st of November 1941. In 1938 a London division of the Royal Canadi
an Naval Volunteer Reserve was organized comprised of 6 officers and 45 men. Quarters for the Division were situated on the second floor of the Darch Building on Talbot Street, and the Market Square was used for parade ground activities. After the outbreak of war, and the apparent inadequacy of the quarters, a move was made on the 15 November, 1939, to the Carling Block at Richmond and Carling Streets. After eighteen years in the Carling Block, a new construction program was launched in February 1956, and on Saturday, the 23rd of November 1957, the building was officially opened at the fork of Thames River. In 1963 HMCS PREVOST was closed in a drastic curtailment of expenditures for defense purposes and the building became home to the militia. PREVOST would not open again for 13 years and when it did it stood up in A Block of CFB London. 1989 PREVOST moved From CFB London back to the PREVOST Armouries and in 1990 it would be recommissioned HMCS PREVOST and has remained so ever since. Le NCSM PREVOST est nommé d'après le HMS Lady Prevost, un brick-goélette servant avec l'escadron du lac Érié, ainsi nommé en l'honneur de l'épouse de Sir George Prevost, alors Gouverneur général du Canada et commandant en chef des Forces britanniques en Amérique du Nord. Le fanion de mise en service est hissé le 1er novembre 1941. En 1938, une division de la Réserve de volontaires de la Marine royale canadienne à London est mise sur pied, comptant 6 officiers et 45 hommes. Les quartiers de la division se situent au deuxième étage de l'édifice Darch sur la Talbot Street et dans le Market Square et sert pour le travail effectué à terre. Après le déclenchement de la guerre et en raison de l'inefficacité apparente des quartiers, l'unité déménage le 15 novembre 1939 au Carling Block, situé sur les Richmond Street et Carling Street. Après 18 années au Carling block, un nouveau programme de construction est lancé en février 1956 et le samedi 23 novembre 1957, l'édifice ouvre officiellement ses portes à l'embranchement de la Rivière Thames. En 1963, le NCSM PREVOST ferme en raison de compressions budgétaires radicales liées à la défense et l'édifice devient propriété de la milice. Ce n'est que 13 années plus t**d que le PREVOST ouvre de nouveau ses portes, dans le Bloc A de la BFC London. En 1989, le PREVOST quitte la BFC London et retourne au manège militaire Prevost, et en 1990, il est remis en service sous le nom de NCSM PREVOST, tel qu'on le connat toujours aujourd'hui.
