Under the authority of the RCMP Act and RCMP Regulations (2014), the Federal Policing mandate is multi-faceted with law enforcement authorities provided under more than 260 Acts. The broad Federal Policing mandate is to:

- Enforce federal laws, secure Canada’s borders between ports of entry, collect criminal intelligence, and ensure the safety of critical infrastructure, internationally protecte

d persons and other designated persons;

- Investigate serious and organized crime, financial crime, cybercrime and criminal activity related to national security;

- Conduct international law enforcement capacity-building, support Canadian international peace operations and advance domestic police operations through enhanced visibility, reach and influence abroad.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto, who fell in the line of duty this morning.

On behalf of RCMP Federal Policing Central Region (Ontario), we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues at the Toronto Police Service.

Every day, police officers across the province and the country, put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities.

It is with great sadness that RCMP Federal Policing - Central Region (Ontario), shares the tragic loss of Ontario Provincial Police, Cst. Tarun Bali who was killed in the line of duty. His bravery and service to others will leave a lasting legacy.

Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, OPP colleagues, and the entire policing community during this incredibly difficult time.

It is with deep sorrow that I confirm that OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali was killed in the line of duty this afternoon in Hearst. His courage and commitment to serving others will never be forgotten. As we grieve this immeasurable loss, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, colleagues and the policing community.

On June 6, RCMP Federal Policing – Central Region (Ontario) attended the fifth annual “ ” event, held in solemn commemoration of the tragic hate-motivated attack that claimed the lives of four members of the Afzaal family.

Attended by C/Supt. Jamie Zettler and other employees from Federal Policing – Central Region, the gathering featured moving remarks from community members. The event was well attended by the local first responder partners; London Police Service, London Fire Department, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, and the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree.

Together, attendees honoured the memories of Salman, Madiha, Yumnah, and Talat while keeping the survivor, their loved ones, and the broader Muslim community in their thoughts.

Central Region remains deeply committed to disrupting violent extremism, bringing those who seek to harm our communities to justice, and preventing future tragedies.

We stand united against Islamophobia and all forms of hate.

Today marks 5 years since the horrific terrorist attack in London, Ontario, that claimed the lives of four members of the Afzaal family.

We continue to hold the survivor, their loved ones, and the entire community in our hearts as we honour the memories of Salman, Madiha, Yumnah, and Talat.

In the wake of this tragedy, the RCMP Federal Policing – Central Region, through the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), worked tirelessly alongside London Police Service to investigate this tragedy. This collaboration marked a historic milestone in Canadian law enforcement, ensuring the perpetrator was held accountable and justice was served under terrorism provisions for this terrorist act which was based on hate.

We remain unwavering in our dedication to disrupting violent extremism, bringing those who seek to harm our communities to justice, and preventing future tragedies. We stand united against Islamophobia and hate in all its forms.
