Resource Stage Audio, Lighting & Video Seminars for Amateur Technicians

Resource Stage seminars are an opportunity for the part time technician, teacher or theatre enthusiast who wants to learn more about the technical aspects of shows and events. We encourage all participants to come with the questions and real life experiences to add to the discussion forum. Each month we discuss and explore the latest technology and techniques as presented by industry professionals.

How much has lighting changed?

Not that long ago, some of the technology we’ll be talking about would have seemed pretty advanced. Today, it’s becoming much more accessible to productions of all sizes.

At our September Resource Stage seminar, we’ll look at DMX over networks, wireless DMX, battery-powered lighting, and pixel lighting control.

No matter how big or small your lighting system is, it’s worth knowing what’s out there and where these tools might fit.

Still running DMX cables everywhere?

Wireless DMX has come a long way, and it can open up some interesting possibilities when running cable isn’t practical.

But where does it actually make sense? What are the benefits, and what should you consider before going wireless?

We’ll take a closer look at this, along with other emerging lighting technologies, at our Next Level Lighting Concepts seminar.

Is your school’s audio system ready for a new school year?

Before the first bell rings and the first production hits the stage, it’s worth taking a look at your audio system.

Are the microphones working reliably? Is the system easy for different users to operate? Are there recurring problems that seem to come back every year?

Our latest Resource Stage article looks at what to consider when upgrading a school audio system, from everyday usability to planning for future productions.

Read the article and see what might be worth improving before the busy season begins:

When choosing an LED wash fixture without a zoom, beam angle matters. A narrow beam can always be widened with diffusion, but you cannot easily make a wide beam narrower.
That is why it often makes sense to start narrow and go wider when you need to.
Not sure which fixture or beam angle is right for your space? Horizon can help you find the right fit.

Something isn't working. Now what?

The lights aren't responding. The audio suddenly sounds wrong. The video signal has disappeared. And of course, it happens five minutes before the show starts.

We've all been there.

Good troubleshooting isn't about randomly changing settings or swapping cables until something works. It's about having a process that helps you find the problem, one step at a time.

In our latest Resource Stage blog, we share a few simple troubleshooting habits that can help you stay calm, work through the problem, and get your system back on track.
