📢 NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

Town of Lockeport Office – Temporary Closure

Please be advised that the Town of Lockeport Office will be closed to the public tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

This temporary closure will allow staff to process the 2026 Tax Bills and get them prepared and in the mail without interruption.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we complete this important work.

Volunteer of the Month - Liam Chedd
The Town of Lockeport is pleased to recognize Liam Chedd as September's Volunteer of the Month.

Liam genuinely cares about his community and shows it through his everyday actions. During his regular bike outings, he takes the initiative to collect garbage, cans, and glass along the roadside, helping keep our town clean and tidy. He also takes the time to connect with neighbours and others he meets, offering directions, sharing information, and lending a friendly hand. Liam participates in local events whenever he can and has a positive and helpful attitude.

What stands out most about Liam is his willingness to be productive and to contribute without expecting anything in return. His actions demonstrate that volunteering isn't always about a formal position or a large project - it can also be about noticing what needs to be done and taking the initiative to help.

Our community is fortunate to have a young people like Liam who care about Lockeport, its people, and the place we all call home. He is a wonderful example of how small acts of kindness, responsibility, and community spirit can make a real difference.

We kindly ask everyone to please stay off the playground while the ground preparation work is underway. The area needs to remain undisturbed to ensure the swing installation can proceed as scheduled on Monday.

📢 NOTICE: PARK CLOSED, PHASE 2 HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN! 🚧

We’re thrilled to see the next phase of improvements underway at Seacaps Playground Park! While we’re excited about what’s to come, the park is now officially closed until further notice to allow construction to move forward safely.

For the safety of our workers and the public, there is absolutely no admittance to the park while construction is underway.

We truly appreciate everyone's cooperation and patience during this exciting time and can't wait to welcome everyone back to enjoy the completed park as soon as possible! 💙🌟

📢 Amalgamation Steering Committee Meeting Postponed

Please note that the September 2, 2026 Amalgamation Steering Committee Meeting has been postponed.

The Committee has invited representatives from the Province and MLA Nolan Young to participate in discussions regarding the next steps for our three communities. Unfortunately, the September 2 date does not align with MLA Young’s existing commitments.

The Committee believes it is important to have MLA Young participate alongside the Province in these discussions. As a result, the meeting will be rescheduled to a date that allows for their attendance.

📅 Once a new date is finalized, it will be advertised.

Want to help influence Lockeport’s environmental footprint? The Town of Lockeport is recruiting members for the Lockeport Causeway and Climate Action Team (LCCAT)!
The LCCAT is a community-led advisory panel that supports Council through making environmentally informed decisions. Members will receive hands-on training in key environmental topics. Training is provided through the Town’s participation in the Clean Foundation’s Community Climate Capacity program.
Some examples of topics that can be explored are:
• Home and municipal building retro-fits (ex: how to save money on energy costs)
• How to support native biodiversity (citizen science, piping plover conservation, etc)
• Organizing outdoor community events (park cleanup, planting community vegetable or pollinator gardens, etc)
• Presentations from and partnership opportunities with environmental organizations across Nova Scotia
• Anything else you’d like to learn more about!
As an LCCAT member, you’ll build practical skills and help shape local decisions that support a healthier, more resilient community. Make a lasting impact today!
Individuals living in Lockeport or those located outside of Lockeport who have a connection to the Town are also welcome to apply. The time commitment will be flexible but will begin in September with a one-hour long meeting, once per month. This may fluctuate depending on Town needs and project uptake.
