District of Lillooet Public Advisory

The campfire ban for the Kamloops Fire Centre has been rescinded. Wildfire season is not over. Vegetation is still dry in many areas, and one unattended campfire can become a serious incident.

If you choose to have a campfire:
- Never leave it unattended
- Keep it small and manageable
- Have water and hand tools on hand
- Make sure it is fully out and cold to the touch before you leave
- Do not burn on windy days

Report a wildfire or an unattended campfire to 1 800 663-5555, or *5555 from a cell phone.

Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659) Update, August 31, 2026

The District of Lillooet has rescinded the evacuation alert for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. You no longer need to be ready to leave on short notice. No evacuation alerts or orders remain in effect within the District for this fire.

This is our final update on the Riley Creek wildfire.

🧑‍🚒To BC Wildfire Service, who worked this fire for over two months in steep, rocky terrain where there was often nowhere safe to anchor. They held the sprinkler line at Texas Creek and kept the fire off the east side of Texas Creek Road and the Fraser River.

🏘️To our neighbouring communities, who worked this fire alongside us. The collaboration was steady the whole way through, and we are grateful for it.

🤝To the out-of-town and out-of-country fire departments, contractors, structure protection crews, Lillooet Road Rescue and RCMP for being there for Lillooetians.

🏡 To our own people. Lillooet Fire Department members, District staff, and our EOC and Emergency Support Services volunteers, who stayed to support if needed

💞 And to you. You stuck to official sources, gave crews room to work, and FireSmarted your properties. That made this easier for everyone.

• The Riley Creek wildfire is still burning. Wildfire risk in our area remains.
• Campfires and open fires are banned across the Kamloops Fire Centre until October 9.
• Neighbouring areas may still be under alert or order from their own authority. Follow your own local government or First Nation.

The District of Lillooet has rescinded the Evacuation Alert issued on July 23, 2026 for the Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659). The rescind is effective immediately.

The rescind applies to:

-All properties on Cook's Road
- All properties on Roshard Road
- All properties on Mitchell Road
- The three properties on Texas Creek Road included in the alert

Residents in this area no longer need to be prepared to leave on short notice. You may resume normal activities.

No evacuation alerts or evacuation orders remain in effect within the District of Lillooet for the Riley Creek wildfire.

If you live outside the District, follow the direction of your own local government or First Nation.

The Riley Creek wildfire is still burning. Campfires and open fires remain banned across the Kamloops Fire Centre until October 9.

Get registered with Voyent Alert so you are notified if anything changes.

If a subsequent evacuation alert or order is necessary, a new notice will be issued.

Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659) Update, August 28, 2026

Alert status (District of Lillooet): The District remains on evacuation alert for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. This is unchanged. All areas around the fire remain on evacuation alert, with no evacuation orders in place.

What’s new:
• The Province has ended the state of emergency that was declared this summer for wildfires. Wildfire risk in our area remains high, so please stay alert.
• The off-road vehicle prohibition across the Kamloops Fire Centre has been rescinded, effective noon today. Campfires and open fires are still banned across the Kamloops Fire Centre until October 9, so please do not light any fires.

Drones remain banned in this fire's flight-restricted airspace. Flying one is illegal and can ground the aircraft crews depend on.

Rolling debris and rocks remain a key safety concern. Please take care and follow all evacuation alerts in your area.

Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659) Update, August 26, 2026

Alert status (District of Lillooet): The District remains on evacuation alert for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. This is unchanged. There is good news across the area: all evacuation orders for the Riley Creek fire have now been downgraded to evacuation alerts. Everyone should still be ready to leave on short notice.

Do not fly drones in wildfire restricted airspace: Every wildfire in BC is automatically flight-restricted, and that includes the Riley Creek fire. On August 25, a drone was flown inside this restricted airspace. If a drone hits a firefighting aircraft the results could be deadly, and even the risk of one grounds the aircraft crews depend on. The restriction covers the airspace within five nautical miles of any wildfire or smoke and up to 3,000 feet above the ground. Penalties include fines and possible jail time. Please keep every drone out of this airspace.

What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
• Structure protection equipment has now been fully demobilized from the fire. You may still see some equipment on certain First Nation properties, supported through the First Nations' Emergency Services Society (FNESS).
• Today is hot, dry and windy, with south to southeast winds gusting to 35 km/h and crossover conditions. Fire behaviour may increase in places, so expect to see visible smoke.

Rolling debris and rocks remain a key safety concern. Please take care and follow all evacuation alerts in your area.

Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659) Update, August 24, 2026

Alert status (District of Lillooet): The District's evacuation alert remains in place for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. This is still an alert, not an order, with no change for District residents. Be ready to leave on short notice, but you do not need to leave now. The rest of the District is not under alert.

Neighbouring communities have a change in their orders: The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has downgraded its Riley Creek evacuation order for Electoral Area B to an evacuation alert. BCWS crews are still active in the area finishing demobilization and cleanup. If you are returning home, please follow SLRD's re-entry and recovery guidance first (linked below) and check your route on DriveBC. Other authorities' orders and alerts remain in place, so please check your community's channels for your status.

What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
• Rain over the last few days has helped subdue fire activity. It has also left the ground unstable, which raises the risk of rolling debris and rocks.
• BCWS is continuing to reduce structure protection equipment to the north and east of the fire, where there is no longer an active threat, thanks to minimal growth and the progress crews are making.
• Texas Creek Road remains open and responders are actively working in the area. The Texas Creek Forest Service Road is closed due to fire activity. The fire has not crossed to the east side of Texas Creek Road or the Fraser River.
Rolling debris and rocks remain a key safety concern. Please take care and follow all evacuation alerts and orders in your area.
