Thanks to all the students who came out to Long Night Against Procrastination! Keep an eye on your emails to see if you won the feedback survey draw; we’ll be contacting the winner in the next few days.

And of course we have to thank all the people who made this event a success:

◾ The Library, Learning Café, Wellness Services, and Accessibility Services for the direct support they offered students

◾ Lethbridge Polytechnic Students' Association - LPSA who served pizza from Dominoes and Punky’s Pizza

◾ The marketing team and the CTLI team for their support planning and advertising the event

◾ Facilities for their help setting up and taking down the event; they made sure 30 pizza boxes ended up in the green bin not the trash

Happy studying!

Instructors at Lethbridge Polytechnic, registration is now open for CanvasCon and Camp Horizon!

We've heard your feedback, so this year we're running these two professional development events consecutively.

CanvasCon starts Thursday morning, May 1st, then Camp Horizon takes over that afternoon and continues on the following morning, Friday, May 2nd.

To make things easy, we've made one form to register for both events. Please fill out the registration form to help us finalize our planning: https://forms.office.com/r/UjQb89rSYi

Some highlights to look forward to this year:
▪ At CanvasCon, join us for Game On for Learning to win Canvas swag in our lively game show! This year’s sessions will cover new features and updates, exploring Enhanced Rubrics, using Teams in Canvas, creating engaging video with Canvas Studio, and more.
▪ Sessions at Camp Horizon will cover topics like how to use AI to build outcome-aligned rubrics, human-centered design and prototyping with AgENT, and how to integrate open educational resources into your courses with support from the library.
▪ Three meals! Breakfast will be provided on Thursday morning to kick off the events, with lunch provided on Thursday and a catered meal on Friday afternoon to wrap-up the two days of learning.

The final schedule will be released next week, so stay tuned for updates. If you have any comments or questions about the events or the form, please contact [email protected].

You don't have to assign costly, traditional textbooks for your courses; there are other options.

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are academic resources that are freely available for use and adaptation. Read the full article to learn how one instructor made the switch from textbooks to OERs, what she learned, and why other instructors might want to consider the same approach.

Thanks to Ali Malcolm and Tracy Harvey for this informative article. Happy Open Education Week!

The Internet is the vast connection of networks that enables learners to access data, files, and documents from all over the globe on the World Wide Web.

Looking for something to brighten up your Wednesday? We've got you covered with a brand new episode of our podcast! ✨

Dive into this fascinating episode about our very our Wildlife Analytics Lab (WAL) - the only one of its kind in Canada! The lab specializes in wildlife cementum (mineralized tissue covering tooth roots) analysis. Through this process, technicians can determine wildlife age and life history to better inform resource conservation practices.

Kelsey and Marcela share how this lab gave them (as former students) invaluable Work-Integrated Learning experiences that helped them transition to careers at the polytechnic. Listen at the link below, or wherever you get your podcasts!

Multimedia Production Student Core Competency project highlight: Wyatt Desserre ✨

Wyatt was inspired to create this design by a quote he heard: “Every decision is a career decision”. Because decisions can be described as steps, Wyatt chose to make this designed based around a hike, as no matter how little the steps you take are, with each step you are closer to the top.

With vibrant colours and an interesting art style, this design really draws the viewer in! Excellent work, Wyatt!
