05/13/2026

City Council has confirmed their decision to not accept EHS Alberta’s contract conditions due to the financial impact it would have on Lethbridge taxpayers.

The City remains open to further discussions with partners on alternative options that could preserve the local integrated Fire & EMS system.

"I want the community and our staff to understand that this is not a decision to walk away from integrated Fire and EMS. It’s only about the unachievable EHS contract condition we have been given.” – Mayor Hyggen

04/29/2026

Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban is in place for all open fires in the City of Lethbridge River Valley.

Current conditions, including warmer temperatures and low humidity, have created a high risk for fast-moving and uncontrolled fires. Even a small spark can quickly spread in dry grass and brush.

Residents and visitors are asked to use extra caution. Do not light any open fires and ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely.

For more information on fire bans, visit the City’s website Lethbridge.ca/fireban
