Every year from November 5 to 11, Canadians honour the service and sacrifice of veterans and active military members during Veterans’ Week.

Here in Leduc, we recognize this important week by coming together as a community to reflect, remember, and show our gratitude. From tributes at local landmarks to ceremonies on Remembrance Day, we honour those who have served and those who continue to serve.

At 11 a.m. on November 11, we invite residents to observe a moment of silence and join us in remembering the courage and sacrifice of those who have given so much for our country. For information about the Remembrance Day ceremony in Leduc, visit www.leduc.ca/remembrance.

The newly elected City Council was officially sworn in on Nov. 3 during a special ceremony at the Leduc Civic Centre. The evening featured a traditional procession led by pipe and drum, individual oaths of office, and Council’s first organizational meeting of the term.

The council, who will serve from 2025 to 2029, is led by Mayor Lars Hansen who has previously served eight years as a city councillor. Joining Hansen are two re-elected councillors (with a combined 19 years on council) and four newly elected members, bringing together a blend of experience and fresh perspectives to guide the work ahead.

The National Dental Care Day Foundation is a volunteer-led initiative committed to restoring dignity through accessible dental care. With over a decade of service in Ontario, the Foundation aims to establish a national day of service where dental professionals across Canada provide care to those in need.

Today, participating clinics will offer one free dental procedure—cleaning, filling, or extraction—to any patient in need, with no insurance or income documentation required. Clinics will also engage in oral health education, community outreach, and volunteer activities to promote awareness and compassion in dental care.

Leduc City Council recognizes National Depression Screening Day on today, Oct. 9, as an important reminder of the value of early mental health support.

Depression is one of the most treatable mental health conditions, and early screening can lead to faster recovery and reduced long-term impact on individuals and their families.

In 2024, 63% of the 2,498 Albertans who completed the free screening were advised to seek further evaluation—highlighting just how vital it is to check in with yourself.
