DAY 8 - A Note From Parker's Mom
Over the past week, you've seen Parker share his love of reading, writing, and the Gammon Lake Little Library. Today, I wanted to share something from my perspective.
One thing I've learned through this journey is that creating something is only half the battle. Sharing it with the world can be the hardest part.
As parents, we encourage our kids to dream big. We tell them to work hard, be brave, and pursue the things they love - whether that's writing books, starting a business, making art, playing sports, or performing on stage. We do everything we can to support them.
But we don't always prepare them for how vulnerable it feels to put something you've created out into the world.
Social media and self-promotion are hard. You can spend months working on something you're incredibly proud of, only to wonder why it isn't reaching as many people as you'd hoped. It can be discouraging, even for adults.
I've seen Parker experience those feelings. He's so proud of The Boy Who Got Buried in Books, but he's also told me he isn't up for starting to write another book until more people have discovered this one. I understand why he feels that way. When you've poured your heart into something, something you really believe is good, it's natural to hope it reaches people. That's why we started this little campaign, in hopes that his book and his love of all things book related, would reach even more people.
As his mom, I wish I could show him just how much every single reader matters. Every book that's purchased, every post that's shared, every comment that's left, and every person who recommends his book to a friend is helping build his confidence and reminding him that his stories are worth telling.
So today, I'd ask you to do one simple thing. If you know a child who's creating something they're proud of... whether it's a story, a drawing, a business, a sport, or a song... cheer them on. Share their work. Encourage them. Sometimes one kind comment or one shared post can make all the difference.
